WHEN YOU BUY A CAR, YOU SHOULD
GET TO DECIDE WHO CAN REPAIR IT.

With every mile, your car generates a continuous stream of data. That data can be used for many purposes, including critical diagnostic information for service and repair shops. Limitations on who can access that data means you lose your right to choose who can service your vehicle. Limited repair choices can lead to higher costs and less convenience.

Pep Boys believes that you should control the data your vehicle produces and decide how that data is stored, shared and used. That’s why we support “Right to Repair” legislation.

What’s Changing and Why It Matters

Traditionally, your repair shop has been able to ‘plug into’ your vehicle’s onboard systems and get the performance data they need to diagnose and repair a problem.

In newer vehicles, vehicle data can be transmitted wirelessly—and exclusively— back to the vehicle manufacturer. This new ‘closed loop’ may give manufacturers exclusive control over who can access and use your vehicle’s data. If manufacturers control your data, they can share or sell it without your consent.

Don’t Let Others Limit Your Repair Choices
