How Does it Work?
- Struts have two main components: a spring and shock absorber. Since, the weight of your vehicle is suspended above the wheels by the spring? this allows for the wheels to travel up and down the road without causing the car to bump up and down over every divot, speed bump or pothole.
- The struts give us a place to mount the coil spring, and the spring is what maintains the height of the vehicle.
How is it Made?
In vehicle suspension systems, struts are most commonly an assembly of coil-over spring and shock absorber.
Why Does it Fail?
- Struts go bad from everyday wear and tear. Since they bear the weight of the whole vehicle, it?s common that their components do not last a lifetime.
What are the Symptoms of Failure?
- Excessive bouncing when crossing an intersection or dip in the road.
- Unusual swaying when changing lanes, stopping quickly, or when turning on curved roads.
What are Consequences of Failure?
- Bad struts will cause drooping and less stability.
- Shaking in certain road conditions.
- Rattling sounds.
