Car Lights

Your car's lights help you see and be safe on the road. From turn signals, to headlights, they all have an integral function in keeping you and other drivers safe on the road. There are high beam and low beam functions to give you better visibility when you need it. Headlights are aimed so they show the maximum amount of road in front of the vehicle.

How Does it Work?

  • Electricity passes through the bulb and the electrons vibrate through the filament, creating very high temperatures.
  • Automotive lightbulbs are available for headlights, LED interior and exterior lights, conventional signaling and interior lighting and accessories.

How is it Made?

  • A polycarbonate plastic headlight lens covers the bulb.
  • Different varieties of bulbs including Tungsten, Tungsten halogen, Halogen-infared reflection (HIR), and High intensity discharge (HID).

Why Does it Fail?

  • Glass breakage.
  • Long term failure- the filament is so fatigued that it's electrical resistance increases to the point the current won't flow.
  • Sealing failure occurs when oxygen enters the bulb.
  • Thermal Shock- the most common- when you turn it on, the bulb flashes brightly and dies.

What are the Symptoms of Failure?

  • Flickering Bulbs.
  • Burned out bulbs.

What are the Implications of Failure?

  • Lessened ability to see at night.
  • Making unsafe turns due to signal light being out.
