Michelin Premier LTX

Safe When New. Safe When Worn. Even when worn, the Michelin Premier LTX tire still stops shorter on wet roads than leading competitors' brand-new tires.
  • With EverGrip technology, expanding rain grooves widen and emerging grooves open as the tire wears to maintain traction.
  • Extreme amounts of silica in the EverGrip Compound provides exceptional wet grip for everyday handling.
  • Sunflower Oil keeps the EverGrip Compound flexible in lower temperatures along with many tread blocks and sipes that act as biting edges to cut through the snow.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 632
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38

Performance

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor wear I purchased 4 new Michelin Premier LTX tires for our 2012 Ford Explorer March 18, 2016 and when they were to be rotated last week found out the front tires had worn down to 5/32nds and was recommended that I replace them which I did. This after 10,000+ miles on a 60,000 mile rated tire. They handle well and ride nice but they don't last. September 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Premier LTX So far so good. Great tires. Always had Michelin on my SUV. Shop around before buying from dealer as I saved $500 buying them AAA Car Care Center. September 9, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tire I've ever run. I drive 40,000 miles a year. Several family members & friends do as well. We all have run Michelin LTX M/S for at least the the last 10 years. No other tire has the wet traction or go 100,000 miles. We all get 100,000 miles per set so long as we rotate every 5,000. Worth every penny. By the way, the last time I traded a truck, I had recently put Michelin LTX M/S2 on the old truck, I had the dealer swap my Michelin's with 15,000 miles for the new tires, a testimony to my belief in Michelin. Great job Michelin!!! I do not work for Michelin, by the way, instead I own & operate 18 restaurants. September 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding tire Just bought this set of tires and so far I am highly impressed. Very quite and excellent traction on wet and dry surfaces. Looking forward to seeing how they do in light snow conditions. The tread design is very aggressive but still keeps the quite ride that I was looking for. September 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect SUV Tire Did a lot of research before deciding on the Premier LTX's. All I can say is spend the extra dollars and get this tire. It is the smoothest, quietest tire I've ever owned. Hugs the road in dry and wet conditions. Absolutely terrific ride and no noise at all. Extremely happy with my decision. Michelin has always been my tire of choice but they even out did themselves with the Premier LTX. August 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Small and Mid-Size SUV Tire I first tried to save a few dollars and put the Defender LTX's on my 2015 Toyota Highlander. They are a good tire, ride was smooth but did have a noticeable "whine" to them. It seems like the Defender LTX is more of a light truck or full size SUV tire and the tread pattern certainly looked like it as well in my opinion. Anyway, after 300 miles, my dealer and Michelin changed them out for the Premier LTX's. All I can say is spend the extra dollars up front and get this tire for any small to mid size SUV. It is the smoothest, quietest tire I've ever owned. Absolutely terrific ride and no noise at all. Fantastic service as well. August 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Tires!! Love these tires!! Excellent in rain and great braking. They look fantastic on my GL450 and I couldn't be happier. Friends asked if we got a new car... Ride is smooth and I would recommend these tires. August 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Primier LTX - RX350 - Usage in Snow - Tahoe Upgraded from other Michelin Latitude. Great grip in snow.... 4 to 5 times better than Latitude tires. Gas Mileage is the same. Great tire, feel safe in the snow and ice. August 9, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice Tire for 2012 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite Replaced worn Primacy MXV4 tires today. Had new Premier LTX tires installed and road forced balanced today. They road very smooth home with no road noise noticeable. I think they will be a great tire and look great too. I read a lot of reviews from people about this tire on other sites that some people don't like this tire for one reason or another. Some will make comments like "I don't slow down when I take corners and this tire is loud or doesn't hug the road, etc." I am 41 years old with a wife and 5 young kids. I drive like a responsible driver and safety of my family and comfort of ride are my top concerns. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tires Just got a new set of these for my 2011 Audi Q7. I was really looking for a tire that was as quiet as possible and these certainly deliver. They feel nice, absorb the road nicely, and I am really enjoying them. Only recently got them so can't attest to long-term wear and tear. June 26, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Whiney Drove on Michelin for years and have enjoyed them. Not this pair. Seems like the more miles on them the louder they get. Have a whine after about 25 mph. My wife even commented about the noise. Very annoying. June 8, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by 4 to go just mounted 4 new tires on my(wifes) 2013 mazda cx 9. Boy what great inprovement. A little costly but I hope they PAY for them. June 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tire ever It came with my 2016 Lexus RX F-sports. After about a month, I decided I want to put aftermarket wheels with wider tire. I liked Michelin Premier LTX so much that I went with same tire, but wider. I'm very happy with handling on wet or dry. And it's very smooth and quiet ride. May 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tire ever Just put a set of Premier LTX's on my 2014 GMC Sierra (20" wheels). Unbelievable ride. My wife got into the truck and quickly commented on how quiet and smooth the tires were. Balanced with a road force balancer. May 6, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Worst Michelin Performance ever I have had Michelin tires on my vehicles for over 30 years and been completely satisfied with their performance. In April '16 I put the 2nd set of Michelin on my 2010 Lexus RX 350. Was advised to put Premier LTX on. Have been nothing but disappointments since. Had tires installed and balanced and bounced all away home. Had tires re-balanced twice after installation to no prevail. Due to Michelin 30 day satisfaction guarantee I was able to get a second set but again to no prevail. Bounced all away home. Finally took vehicle to Lexus car dealership and had them Road Force Balanced. Never have had to do such to just be able to drive. May 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best tires ever for our Toyota 4Runner Just a month so far but love, love, love these tires. So quiet, smooth and great handling/tracking. Great in rain too. This is our third set of tires on our 2006 Toyota 4Runner and these are amazing compared to prior sets. We live in Vermont and really appreciate the handling on mountain roads, interstates, and local dirt roads. No time on snow yet. May 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by THESE NEED TO BE YOUR NEXT TIRE PURCHASE! These are the best tires I've ever purchased! It literally feels like I had new shocks/struts installed. I was going to replace the front struts until I had these tires installed. There's no need now. Our MDX drives like a new car again. The harsh ride from the previous Latitude Touring HP's is gone. Those are the worst tires I've had on the MDX. The wear was horrible as well! Michelin hit a home run with the Premier LTX! The road noise is diminished, it handles slightly better with a softer ride. In time we'll have to see how the tread wear goes since the rubber is very soft. THESE NEED TO BE YOUR NEXT TIRE PURCHASE! Rated 1 out of 5 by Primacy MXM tires on new cars do not last I have 25000 miles on my Acura RDX and over half of the miles are highway miles and the Acura dealer told me that I will need to replace the tires within the next 4000 miles. I expected Michelin tires to last more than 30000 miles especially when over half are on the highway. The dealer said that the tires do NOT have any mileage warranty when the car was new. February 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smooth and Quiet 01/16/2016: I immediately felt and heard the noticeably improved difference with this new set of four Michelin Premier LTX tires on my 2006 Acura MDX (SUV). These replaced a set of 4 Michelin Cross Terrain tires purchased in 2011 accumulating 50,500+ miles due for replacement in about 6-months, but I wanted to get new/fresh-tread all-season tires for greater peace of mind this winter. You will notice their smotth "cushioned" feel and much reduced road noise right away. I trust that the other desired chracteristics of improved driving/control in snow and wet winter conditions will be equally apparent, thus my projected 5/5 S & TP ratings. January 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tire I've ever bought!,,, Best tires I have to say. Bought a set of 4 to replace my old Michelin energy mxv4 on my 2007 Acura MDX and they run way smoother and very quite. Also better handling on the highway and city roads. I highly recommend this tire if you want a smooth and quite ride. December 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by OUTSTANDING TIRE I just purchased these for my 2012 Lexus RX-350. I had 40,000 miles on the original equipment tires, with a tread depth of 3/32 inch. After a lot of research, I decided on the Michelin Premiere LTX. As soon as I drove away on my new tires, I was amazed at the difference in ride quality. I really believe it drives better now than when I bought it brand new! I especially like the wide grooves on the Premiere LTX. Living in Florida, we get a lot of rain; previous reviews showed how great the wet traction is, so I'm looking forward to testing this out as well. I highly recommend this tire! December 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by BEST AND GREAT TIRE Very quiet tire . Great on dry roads .I will have a review on wet road November 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So Quiet!! These are the quietest tires I've ever owned! There may be cheaper tires out there but not better. The only problem I've had with them is that I now hear squeaks and noises my car was making that was being drowned out with the previous tires. These are worth every cent! November 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by michelin prrmier ltx in the rain I purchased 4 of these tires two weeks ago. Just got to try them in the rain today.I could not believe the traction over my old latitude tours. It was like a patch of glue on each tire, amazing traction. October 15, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT TIRE It is so quiet then my LATITUDE TOUR HP tire. Great tire. October 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Confidence Builder The first thing I noticed was that this tire was quieter than my MXV4s that I had replaced. When I went on the highway my SUV tracked better and it felt very stable. So much so that I found myself over steering. Especially in construction zones where the lanes narrowed and you had to hold your lane through rough pavement the tires excelled. I have become very confident in the secure feeling these tires give. I have gotten over 60K miles with my previous MXV4s and hope these tires will give me the same. September 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by New Customer I find that the ride I am now experiencing is so much more smoother, than the tires that were replaced.it is also a good looking tire as you know I am a first time user of Michelin tires these are a all terrain tire so I will come back and write a review on how they handle in the snow and ice. September 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by great tire! Just bought premier LTX tires for my Jeep Liberty... I love them!!! They ride very quiet and when you turn around sharp corners they really hug the road. It almost feels like they are turning for me with little sticky hands coming out to hold the road. August 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well made and met mileage warranteeI had over I drove over 53K miles on these tires and had I not developed an alignment issue would have easily exceeded 60K warranty. I drive a large SUV and carried heavier weights on long road trips. They handle well in snow and ice. Michelin has a quality reputation and I trust them with my family. This is my third set of Micheloin tires August 31, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by 255 / 50 R20 premier LTX for Ford Explorer Bought 4 new tires towards the end of July before we went on vacation for our 2014 Ford Explorer. We now have 5200 miles on the tires and the tread dept is down to 7/32 on all 4 tires. 95% of the miles are highway miles do to our trip and because of my wife's drive to work. New tire has 12/32 August 25, 2015
