SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 640
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38

C - Between 85 and 100 mph
Performance

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tires This was my first time changing tires, It obviously turns out so good to me. I'm very satisfied with this purchase! Thanks. September 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by product great and price reasonable. product great and price reasonable. September 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by 4.75 Stars Out Of 5 '01 VW Jetta TDI I have been a Michelin tire rider since I first became an auto technician in the late '70's. Since 2001 I have had the MXV4s, another MXV4s, The MXV4-S8, the Primacy tires, and February '15. I purchased the Premier A/S. I wasn't totally sold on them because I really was looking to purchase the Pilot A/S3, but the Pilot's are not made in the 195/65R15 size, so I bought the Premier A/S. Wet conditions have improved. Smooth transitioning from the smooth to rough road surfaces, extremely low noise and hard stopping is great. My only complaint is the fuel mileage dropped from 50mpg to 48mpg, but I can live with that. '01 VW TDI 285K miles. August 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bmw 325 Great grip on the road and won't let you down in the rain either. August 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by How could you not like these tires? I've had the new Premier A/S for one week. I replaced the original equipment MXV4's which had 30,000 miles. The old tires were not worn out but I knew I would have to replace them when I turn the car back in 5 months so I thought I might as well use the new ones. Obviously, the old tires were past their prime - so perhaps that makes the comparison unfair But... the Premier are quieter - Very quiet, and the handling/cornering is terrific. I'm very happy I gave this new pattern a try! ...on a 2013 Lexus ES300h, by the way. August 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by worth it I used to always buy the cheapest tires but after buying a car with Michelin tires I will never go back. Now all my cars have them snow rain they do great! August 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Michelin tire I have owned I have owned several sets of Michelin tires and this set just topped the list for traction, responsiveness and road handling. They replaced another set of Michelin tires and the performance is even better. If you have owned Michelin's you know what I'm talking about. If you are thinking about your first set, do it. I have sold tires for twenty years which means I have driven cars with different tires on them and nothing compares to the performance and value you get out of a set of Michelin's. Per mile there is no greater return on your investment than buying a set of Michelin's for you car, van, truck or sports car. July 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by 100000 miles and finally swapping them out for new ones I have a 2011 Accord and after 100000 miles my original tires are being replaced. I am getting the same ones to replace them. Great product!!! July 28, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Decline in Fuel Economy I purchased four Premier A/S tires for my Hyundai Sonata late 2014. Though I like its better grip on snow and ice, I have noticed a decline in fuel economy this summer. I usually got 33.xx last year, now its 31.xx. A two mile drop is quite significant. maybe a price to pay for a better grip ? July 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent tires - great handling in all weather even sn Bought these tires for a Mitsubishi Eclipse. They provided superior handling in all weather conditions, even our snowy Minnesota winter last year. Never had a concern about cornering or stopping. Ride is quiet and comfortable. Excellent tires. July 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tires I have traveled a couple times and these are the best tires I have owned. Smooth, quiet, very responsive. I highly recommend these tires. July 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Michellin always has a great product. I have only had these on the car for a short while but in that short period of time they hold the road nice handling the on and off ramps at speed. The unpredictable weather and severe rain has not been an issue and I will continue to use the tires that I think are the best. Pep Boys continues to surpass my expectations with their professionalism and knowledge and it is nice that they are available in the states that I spend time in. July 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I am really liking my new tires! These tires are absolutely amazing in rainy conditions. They just plow through the water. My car used to slip slide all over, not anymore. July 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Another set of Michelin's for Jim ! Been on Michelin's since college and have always had a great experience. Recommend them (and the local dealer) to anyone and everyone. This is a first for the Premier A/S's which went on this afternoon. A quick trip down to the store and all seems well. Quiet and responsive. Looking forward for years of excellent service. June 26, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by New Tires Very dependable, always a trustworthy brand. This is the third set of Michelin tires installed on this vehicle. June 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by road noise tires seem to be very good, but my road noise has increased,my dodge dart sounds likea 4x4, ride quality didnt change much. cant figure it out. I put michelins on another vechile and no problems June 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tire ever! I bought these tires 14 months ago for my 2006 Lincoln Zephyr . I didn't want to write a review until after I had driven my car in all different types of weather conditions. These tires have out preformed my expectations. The ride that you get while traveling is outstanding, like my friends states; "These tires have such a smooth ride it's like you're in your lazy boy chair!" These tires have preformed well in all kind of weather conditions; snow, rain, etc. I now have put 12,000 miles on these tires and they have worn very well. I can honestly say, this is the best set of tires that I have ever bought! I would recommend these tires. June 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good tires this product I recommend May 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing A few minutes after leaving the tire center i was caught in a serious downpour. the tires performed perfectly just like i read in every brochure and magazine. the smoothness and response, the handling and feel is extremely impressive. comparing to the other brand i had on the car, the car now drive like a dream and like a Mercedes should. I am looking forward to tens of thousands of miles on these tires with no issues, already. I will be buying another set of the same tires for my wife's Acura TL. The primacy's are good but these are far better. May 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Saved a life today!! Purchased a full set of tires on April 17th, 2015. I drive a mountain highway (the Ortega Highway) that has many blind corners. Came around a blind corner and a deer was right in front of me (broadside). Slammed on my brakes while steering around the deer. Didn't hit the deer!! Absolutely no tire screeching, while maintaining full control of my car. Thank you, thank you Michelin!!! You got to get these tires!!!! May 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great performance across all conditions When shopping, this tire was new and retailers said they didn't have winter driving history. But, given my luck with Michelin, I thought I'd take the chance. After purchasing, I was able to test them with torrential rains. They had sure traction at highway speeds and I felt no hydroplaning. During our MN winter, they were tested with freezing slush, deep snow, ice,... The traction was noticeably better than previous tires. Uphill icy stretches, where I routinely had slippage, the tires stuck to the road. Impressive! Finally, on dry highway pavement, I found that road noise was quite low. My faith in Michelin has been reaffirmed. May 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by wow have aa volkswagen 2012 with 61000 on it ane put michelin premier A/S. I t is hard to find words to explain how great these tires are. I find myself finding as excuse to drive, the tires are wonderful, quiet, good ride and handles with no fighting. Wish my VW came with Michelin tires when i bought it in 2012. To think all thoses miles wasted with an inferior ride that I relize now with my Michelin A/S tires. Would never buy any other tire no way. I drive over 20000 miles a year and lucky to have my Michlin tires with me May 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by FELLING LIKE IN HEAVEN…. WHEN THE TIRES RUNNING YOUR FELLING LIKE IN HEAVEN …. May 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So much better then OEM, and pretty much anything else. I replaced the stock Nexen tires on my 2013 Elantra GT with the Premier A/S, and it is a decision I am happy about with every single drive. Much quieter, and in the Florida rains they make the car feel so very confident, as if the road were still dry. I don't have a negative thing to say after 10,000 miles, and they are wearing very little at this point. In dry weather , the car feels nimble, and grips the corners like glue. I highly recommend these tires. May 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality Tire! I put these on a '03 Honda Accord EX and wow! The MXV4s I had on were good but these are the best tires I have owned! They are smooth and comfortable without being too soft feeling. Have not driven in huge rainstorm yet but pretty confident they will handle the job given the specs. April 26, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality pays off! When your are driving with your grandchild When purchasing the new tires,we did not expect to feel the difference. then, we went for a spin around town.Well, the new tires perform better than we expected.the ride is smoother and the wheel alignment made a difference too!As far as user performance rating! It is excellent for wear life, fuel efficiency, handling, braking, comfort April 25, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by My second set I purchased a set of Michelin Premier about 2 1/2 years ago. I hit a pothole around January, bent my tire rim and got a knot in the tire. The mechanic sad that I should replace the rim and the tire. I drove on the tire until the third week in March and the tire was still in good shape except for the knot. It did not loose any air. The tires were only about 2/3 worn and I bought my 2010 4 cylinder car brand new. Now it has 131,000+ miles on it. So, I decided to buy another set. They ride very nice. But, I recommend installing them on a 6 cylinder vehicle. You will love them. March 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tire for little cars Extremely pleased, All around great tire quiet, great braking and handling out performed the OEM tire hands down. Cons: no 19 or 20 inch version ! so if you upgrade your rims you CANT use this tire. March 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by it was worth the research and wait The tires that came on the car were noisy, great in snow, but noisy, and only lasted 30,000 miles, I did a lot of asking and looking and went with the Premier A/S upon the final recommendation of Michelin themselves. I rides smooth beyond belief , is quieter than it has ever been, I love it now! Its quiet, like I imagined it would be when I believed it would be with the new tires, as it was used when I bought it, and it was not. I put up with the noise for 30,000 miles. As long as these babies stay this quiet as I was told they would, I will be a Michelin customer for life! And my Mileage has jumped up around town so far! January 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Last ones so good that... Last Michelin's for our Honda Civic lasted almost 60,000 miles even though rated for 45,000. The new set is an upgrade and well worth it as the Premier's are quieter and provide a more gentle ride even though they are rated for 60,000 miles. January 27, 2015
