SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 640
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54

C - Less Than 0.38

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tire This tire basically saved me driving through NJ's worst ice storm ever, this past Sunday Jan 18. My tires were tightly grabbing the road, even in the worst conditions. They have also worked really well in snow. I replaced my RAV4 RunFlat tires with these and the drive is so much quieter and smoother. I no longer feel every bump in the road. I'm glad I got these tires. January 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very quiet tire! Bought these tires for a 2005 Camry. Have only had them a week but have been very impressed with their handling, ride comfort and QUIET. We have owned the car for 10 years and these are the best tires that have ever been on the car. January 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent tire It have less rolling resistance, better braking and handling performance than my old Primacy MVX4. I have notice at least 1 mpg more per gallon that is a plus. December 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT - Everything I expected Within the first 24 hours of having this tire on my Subaru Sport Limited I experienced dry pavement, wet pavement and snow/slush & ice. This tire is EXCELLENT and doing everything I expected. I purchased this tire primarily for Handling & Traction and in the above conditions it has given me a 5 star performance. December 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Major difference in handling performance I believe in the product and it's ability to enhance my vehicle's gas mileage and handling in all weather conditions. December 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Should have gotten these sooner, smooth! I just purchased these tires as replacements on my new/dealer tires. My car had an awful rattle/vibration and it was the last straw when I took them back to the dealer and got them rotated they got worse! I needed tires ASAP. My friend swears by Michelins; so I sprung the extra $ for the good ones. With a new alignment; the car is like brand new (Ford/Focus)! SOOOO QUIET & SMOOTH riding. It's raining ever since I got them and I don't feel any problems that I had previously. I even recorded before and after on my phone because you could hear the difference! Before, it was so loud and rumbled; now, its silent! Thanks Michelin Man! Especially like the rebate. December 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tire Purchased a set of Premier A/S tires just in time for the snow. What a difference a tire can make for your driving experience. Great traction, good braking, very quite and excellent handling. Makes driving enjoyable. November 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent tires for my car Great comfortable tires that deliver a nice smooth ride. I have a 2004 Honda Accord and this tire model was the stock tire for my car when I purchased it. November 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tires ever! Just drove in the seasons 1st snow storm here and I Love my new tires!! Traction and handing are incredible! November 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Satisfied Customer I don't understand why people gave this tire a bad review. My handling has improved, as has my stopping!! & My fuel efficiency has also improved. Not by much but then again I've only had them for 1 month. I've always taken Michelin tires over all the other tire makers. And I always will!! November 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Just in time for the winter season! they have great traction and don't slide on ice, slush, or snow. makes the road safer than ever. November 18, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by My new premier a/s tires The tires ride hard and using extra 3 gallons of gas for every10 gal lions . This is over the factory tires. Unbelievable!!!! November 16, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't judge a tire by its name Just the worst tire I ever owned, turned my very very quiet, and smooth, Chrysler 300c, into a thumper and road noise. November 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great traction so far, so very good, i have 2011 Dodge Challenger, these premier Michelin Tires , are superior !!! Im very pleased with them, ! I hope they will last and the pass the test of time, I will do a follow up review in a year ! November 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best tires I'v ever owned Best handling wet or dry tires I have ever owned. When these ware out I will get another set of Premier Michelin's. I have recommended these to about 5 or 6 people now. November 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Rockin on day one Transformed my 2006 Honda. Smooth.... I will check back later and let you know how they handle a West Michigan winter. October 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by If it gets any better let me know Product is used daily. Wet handling is excellent. Noise dampening, braking, and fuel economy improvements are welcomed editions to my car. October 24, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by High road noise Unhappy with the Premier brand. I get a lot of road noise from these tires and my understanding was that they were a better tire than the Energy brand. I've only had them for about 1 month and I certainly wouldn't buy them again. My last set was Energy and the last 2 sets on my wife's van was Energy. October 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by "PREMIER A/S" I have a 2010 Impala. The original TPC, Brand X, tires had 37,445 miles and were displaying operational signs of Tire Aging @ 60 months. My experiences with Michelin Tires has always been great. I purchased a set of MICHILIN PREMIER A/S 225/55/R17 MXV4 97V. What a great decision! We, my wife and I, went to lunch today and the ride was comfortably smooth. The new tires were completely road silent and gave good steering Total Performance. I look forward to ongoing comfort, safety and performance from our purchase. October 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding, new A/S performance product Purchased to replace OEM, subpar brand, at delivery of new, luxury sedan. The Premier feels even more surefooted in the steering wheel and seat than the three sets of Primacy owned with last three, large but lower performance sedans. The tires' quiet, grip at take-off and extreme cornering must be experienced to be believed. However, its surefooted grip at highway speeds, during sudden lane changes, in a pouring rain, will assure you, that you own the finest, affordable passenger car tire on the road, today. I expect to achieve more than the 60,000 mile wear from these tires as I have from the previous Michelin Primacy model. I intend to keep this car for more than ten years and will keep it shod in Michelin's best A/S tires for my enjoyment, safety, and that of my passengers. October 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Will purchase again I noticed a difference the minute I drove off and got on the highway, nice smooth ride! I hope the warranty is as good as it says, just in case it might be needed. October 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good so far Two weeks ago we put on 4 new Premier tires to replace the <4/32s worn Primacy MXV4s on our 2012 Toyota Camry XLE. The installer could have still gotten Primacys but advised us to go with Premiers since if there was ever a need to replace a single Primacy they would not be available. I'd had concerns about the 8.5/32s new tire tread depth on the Premiers, but they pointed out the tires have sipes that both appear during tread wear and go down fully to under 2/32s which other tires don't have. We average over 15k mi/year on this car with a 60/40 balance of highway/city miles. So far in over 1600 miles of mostly freeway driving I am very satisfied with the Premiers. Mine are NOT noisy as some have complained about. Handling is excellent; I've only had 30 miles of driving in heavy rain but they did fine. I've noticed a very slight degradation in gas mileage almost not measurable but it may be down a few percent (normally get right at the Toyota EPA 35 mpg on the freeway and it's varied from around 37 with a tail wind to 32 the past 2 tanks which seems a bit low based on conditions). I will reserve judgement on winter handling and see if I can add to this review in December after our first real midwest snows. I am still concerned I'll get 60k miles but hope to get at least 50k depending on the time of the season treadwear drops under 4/32s. October 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smoothest, quietest best traction ever! We were going to purchase the "Defender" and our dealer recommended we upgrade to the "Primier A/S". We have a Saturn Vue Hybrid mid-size SUV. These tires transfer ZERO road noise. They give a cushy (not mushy) ride and have great traction in wet weather. Can't wait to try them in the snow. They made our car ride better than new. Thank you Michelin for the best tire ever! October 6, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Noise Annoys In July I purchased four 205/55R16 M1 Premier AS tires for my 2006 VW Jetta TDI. I took off Michelin MXV4s which had given me 45K miles of really great service but which are no longer available. they were not at the end of their useful life but I wanted really new rubber for the trip. The road noise on all surfaces above 45 mph was so bad that I we took my wife's 2011 VW GTI on the trip instead. When I sought to return the AS M1s I was several days beyond the return deadline. Nevertheless, Michelin treated me extremely well and I was given a full refund. Great Company and Service not the right tire for my vehicle and me. October 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Never used anything other than Michelin i have only used michelin tires on all my cars. They have always lasted longer than they are rated to perform. I have been in both heavy rain, snow, and sleek roads and have not once lost control or skid. On my last two "new" cars, after owning them for 10 years each, i have had to replace the tires once each in those 10 years. Meaning, that i have only bought new tires twice in 20 years ! I would highly recommend these tires if you plan on driving with someone you love or care about in the car. October 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smooth Ride Use on Highway 60% of the time. Quiet, Smooth ride much better than MXV4plus. October 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Second Time for Michelin! Bought Lattitudes for my Rav 4, excellent, so I got the Premier a/s for my Honda Fit Sport. Took a ride on the interstate and they seem great, too little time until they break in a bit. Seem a little stiff but I think they will soften up after a bit. September 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than MXV4 I had a set of Primacy MXV4 for 1 year and it was the first set of Michelin's I have ever not been happy with. During rotation they discovered a nail in the sidewall and gave me the option of replacing the whole set because the MXV4 had been discontinued. 300 miles later I actually enjoy driving again! Super super happy with the new and improved replacement over the MXV4. September 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quiet and handles like a dream I strayed from Michelin last time I needed tires. Just replaced those noisy, bumpy tires with the Premier A/S and immediately noticed how quiet they are, how well they handle and how smooth the ride is in my Volvo. Glad to be back with great tires! September 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Wet Traction Installed on 03 Corolla. Hydroplaning tendency gone. I've used Michelin tires since 1970, I've had some issues with tires before, but Michelin has been more than fair on adjustments made. Cost-per-mile always less than other tires I've had. Some road noise, but not annoying. The feeling of security in water is like the Michelin Hydro-Edge I use on another auto. September 9, 2014
