SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tire Awesome tire that replaced OEM run flats on my BMW Z4. Car rides better, handles better, and is MUCH quieter. Awesome tire that I would definitely purchase again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Michelin Tire performance shocked me! My first exposure to Michelin tires was on my 1969 Volvo 144. I replaced the original tires with Michelin "X". The difference in tire performance was almost unbelievable, and I have been a believer in Michelin ever since! thank you Michelin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These tires really stick to the road! These tires always grip the road. They give you a very secure feeling even in hard rain. They don't slip in fast acceleration. And they look good! My only wish is that they were quieter on the road. But the other attributes are more important. I love how they look on the car.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An Exceptional Choice!!!! I just recently purchased a 2004 BMW 330Ci and the tires are one of the first things I always replace. It's been only a month since the replacement, so not much I can really say except, immediately I noticed a quieter ride, little to no road noise inside the car. The handling is nice but I haven't really stress tested the tires because of the short amount of time I have owned the tires, thus the 4-Star rating, which I'm sure will be upgraded once I've had more time with the tires. I have always preferred Michelin tires for all my cars since 1988 and it seems this tradition will continue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfaction since 1968 I purchased my first set of Michelins for my 1968 MGB. Since then, there have been multiple sets for many different cars I have owned. I have always been very satisfied. Multiple times my car purchases have arrived with other manufacturers' tires. It is always a happy day for me when I install my first set of Michelins on that particular car. Keep up the good work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LIKE WALKING BAREFOOT IN THE SAND Think hard about walking in high heeled boots on a cobblestone street. Now think about walking bare-footed in the wet sand at low tide---that's the feeling you get riding on the Michelin Sport AS3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mini Corners with Pilot Sport A/S 3 I was looking for tires that could handle the Mini's cornering ability in all types of weather. After extensive research, I chose Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S 3. These were exactly the set of tires I was looking for. The ride is supurb and the handeling in the corners is amazing. As an added benefit, I found the stopping distance with the new Michelin's greatly improved. The MINI is an agressive driving machine and the Pilot Sport A/S 3 are up to the challenge. I would highly recommend them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tires seem to be wearing well They handle well, and grip well in wet weather. Plus they are not noisy as some brands are.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only tire for my family Michelin tires have been my choice for our family of Honda & Acura vehicles. They are a safe tire. We have never had a blow out or tire problem of any sort. It gives you a comfortable feeling when traveling knowing that your tires are the last thing that you need to worry about.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great value for money Great value for money tire. Relatively low noise and good mpg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Performance Handling These tires handle beautifully under hot/dry as well as hot/wet conditions (and cold), can be pushed to the car's limit without problem, and have tread-life much longer than I would have expected for such a performance tire. Although not great in snow, they can do it, even with a rear drive sports car, on the banged-up US freeways! Comfort is the best I have had in a performance tire, by far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking tire Use these as summer tires only. They wear very well. They are nosier than my winter tires, also the dealer I bought them from used nitrogen, when I check my air pressure and have to add air I do not have nitrogen. I was told that is O.K. but seems no one knows for sure. Also had a flat so I have three tires with nitrogen and one with out, is this O.K.?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tires for Audi I have a 2006 Audi A3 3.2 Quatro S-line. I have used Conti Pros which was the tire the car came with. Since switching to the Michelins I notice a huge improvement in performance and handling, especially driving on wet/slick roads. I have a lot more confidence driving with these tires. Highly recommended. I hope these are offered on the new Audi S3 coming next year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Handling and Comfort I have been a long time Michelin purchaser, but the company has out done themselves with the development of the A/S 3. The best thing I like about the Pilot Sport A/S 3 is the non-directional tread. The tires handle superbly and they provide a comfortable ride at the same time. The performance in the rain is second to none for a performance tire. Outstanding product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires I recently purchased the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. My experience with this newly released tire has been very positive. The handling, comfort, braking, and fuel efficiency have been excellent. I would highly recommended this tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade Replaced oem grand touring tires from another manufacturer. These new uhp a/s tires are for my 2013 Audi S4. All the reviews and the NOLA tests are correct, these tires are amazing. Smoother rolling, tighter, firmer around corners, control handling braking. No Negatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth n quiet Finally got a set of these on my C6 to replace the worn out oem tires. I took actual decibel level readings with the old tires and with the new A/S 3's and found average noise level dropped 5-9 decibels on the same roadway and same speed. Definitely a smoother ride as well. Traction in heavy rain is incredible. I wish this new Pilot Sport A/S3 had been out last year .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like butta Remember when Mike Meyers would parody his mother-in-law on SNL? She was a radio personality named Linda Richman and her show was "Coffee Talk". Anyways, when something was smooth beyond belief, Linda (Meyers) would describe it as, "like butta....." (ie. like butter). Well, sorry for the lengthy build-up to my comment, but that describles these tires perfectly. They are indeed, "like butta!" I won't bore you with a lot of techno-speak, I'll just say treat yourself to a set of the finest tires that you are ever likely to own! They are worth every penny of the cost and you will think that you are driving the brand-new car of your dreams!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the wait! Amazing tire. After 3 long months my PS AS3 arrived today. All I can say is what a tire! I put these on my S5 and can't believe the grip, and ride. I previously ran a competitors summer tire but had to sacrifice the poor tread life for grip . After reading the reviews from the testing in New Orleans, I opted to make the change for a long life performance tire. I have only had these one day but I am sold! Way to go Michelin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed with the A/S 3 I have been extremely happy with the Pilot Sport A/S 3 since I put them on my Audi A4 Avant. Right away, the PSAS 3 was quieter than my previous all-season tire, and the wagon was more fun to drive. Even though the PSAS3 is an all-season tire, we have been driving in winter conditions and have been impressed by how well the car stops. Just the other day, I had to come to a hard stop from about 45 mph to avoid an accident, and was further impressed by how cleanly the PSAS 3 stopped on a wet road - the car did not slide or shake at all. I feel safer driving on these tires. Not only is the family car more fun, but it also feels safer. Bonus -- we are getting about 2-3 mpg better fuel economy! I would definitely recommend this tire to my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Change tire, change the car Changing to the MPSAS3 made our already great car even better. I felt an improved connection to the road. Yes it was stiffer but not in a way that was more uncomfortable but rather it was like upgrading the dampers on the car to the "sport" version. Braking was improved in both wet and dry and the handling was very rewarding. The car goes where I point it and it is predictable even in the snow/ice mix. This is an All Season and does not compare to a full ice and snow tire but it is by far the best All Season I have been on. I am extremely pleased with the tire.
