SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 500
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38

C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Excellent performance, Excessive cost One of the best tyre indeed, but cost is prohibitive April 12, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor wear. I purchased 4 tires ( pilot sport a/s ) and currently have less than 20k on them. Though I'm happy with the traction the tread life is extremely poor. The wife drives very passively and was able to wear them down to the bone. The warranty was not honored because the tires were only rotated once. March 1, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Vastly inferior tire compared to Pilot Sport A/S Plus The Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires previously on my car offered incredibly traction even in packed snow. They did suffer from unusual wear though and for that reason I decided to try the A/S 3 tire. However, shame on Michelin for introducing new Ultra-High Performance tires that go backwards in terms of traction by a fair margin. The tires perform worse than the A/S Plus even in dry/wet conditions and pretty poorly in snow conditions. Yes, overall they are better than typical All-Season tires but I would go back to the A/S Plus tires in a heartbeat. February 19, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by COSTCO Tires - a Great Deal! No one beats Costco for price and tire packages, period! I gave them the wrong tire size and they caught it for me (thank the Lord), the only flaw was they didn't mention registering my tires online which is significant but I am very detail oriented! Rated 2 out of 5 by Radial pull on New Pilot Sport A/S3 tire 205/55R16 91V Was looking for an All Season tire and based on the descriptions this was the tire for the car. Bought 4 new tires, Pilot Sport A/S3, size 205/55R16 91V , 2 of which are DOT B9W11DX4515 and these are the ones I am rating Below Average. Still dealing with Tire Retailer in getting the Radial pull tire replaced. January 12, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Did not last long. Replaced under warranty I'm giving these Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 another try. Purchased a set for my '07 Audi A8. Did a rotation after 7,800 miles, but after 15 months and 11,000 miles, I was left with 2/32" on the front tires and 4/32" on the rear. Not very impressive for 45,000 mile tires. The Costco tire shop prorated 2 of the tires but would not do the same for the other 2, essentially coercing me to buy 2 tires at regular price because their policy is to change all 4 when it is an all wheel drive vehicle. Frankly, I'm not very pleased because these tires are not that cheap. Fairly quiet tires with great wet and dry traction. Snow traction is below average. November 4, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Michelin Pilot tires on my CLS 500 Mercedes I put four new Michelin pilots on my car and have driven barely over 20,000 miles on them in the rear tires already need to be replaced for the money you spend whi I am considering purchasing another brand of tire if anyone has suggestions for a comfortable ride and longer lasting wear let me know October 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by As3 review Very good wet / dry handling but a harsh ride on average rods October 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Long lasting and sporty 60,700 miles Car 2013 Lexus GS350 RWD Bought the Pilot A/S 3's when the car had 41,300 miles, Just replaced them at 102,031 Miles. WOW...! I drive 55-60K miles/yr mostly on the interstate in the South and I'm not a hard driver, but from time to time I like to drop the hammer on the GS when I get on a windy country road or up in the Smokey Mountains. I've also do a little Autocrossing and the car is a hoot to drive hard. My gas mileage is right at 29 MPG with about 85% highway miles and I average 74 MPH on the interstate. I do hear a bit of road noise, but it's OK for a sports sedan, even a Lexus. I balance them regularly and align them if needed. September 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tire, Great price..... Had a hard time finding this size tire for my vehicle. I checked locally and online, found them at Pep Boys. I ordered them online and they were shipped for free and received in three days. August 14, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed (good at first, bad at the end) I am pleased with the performance of the tires. They are about average, if I compare to Vredestein Q-trac all-season (lasted 35K miles) and to Finnish WR-G2 all-season (lasted 38K miles) tires. Both of the above had better traction, wet and dry. However, major disappointment is the tire wear. I replaced the front struts and other front suspension parts before purchasing Michelins. Plus, did 4-wheel alignment. I did rotate them every 4-8K miles. The tires were gone at about 19,000 miles. No performance, bad in wet weather, no traction, other issues. The tire dealership did not recommend the last rotation, b/c they did not want to put the bad set on the rear (to keep still decent set on the rare further). But the tires were flat and loud and done at 19K miles. I do 80/20 highway/town driving. The tires were used from OCT-MAY period (before the Summer season started). Thus, I am disappointed in tire wear mostly, considering 45K miles warranty. Do not buy and avoid for wear problem. June 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by MICHELIN, THE BEST TIRE EVER I BOUGHT MY FIRST MICHELIN TIRE FOR MY CADILLAC IN 1985 AND HAVE BEEN BUYING THEM SINCE THEN FOR ALL MY VEHICLES. EVEN WHEN I PURCHASE A NEW CAR, I CAN'T WAIT TO WEAR THE ORIGINAL TIRES OUT SO I CAN REPLACE THEM WITH MICHELINS. THE MICHELINS ARE SO MUCH SMOOTHER, QUITER, AND BETTER TRACTION IN WET WEATHER. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO TO MAKE A GREAT TIRE EVEN GREATER. June 18, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst Michelin Tires in 32 Years!! Since 1983, I've exclusively purchased Michelin tires which, until now, never disappointed me. Although the Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires handle well, they've significantly reduced my Honda Civic's gas mileage by 10-12%. The drop in mileage began immediately after these tires were installed. I keep my vehicle in top mechanical shape and ensure that all maintenance schedules are followed, so there is no doubt that the drop in mileage is due to these new tires. My original tire choice was the Primacy MXM4 205/55R16 tires. Unfortunately, Michelin had no inventory available for many months. Just my luck, because the Primacy MXM4's are now available! Rated 5 out of 5 by Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 - Highly Recommend When deciding on which tires to recently purchase in May 2015, I almost listened to chatter about these tires being noisy. So glad I did not listen and went with my decades of experience owning Michelins. I really do not understand the noise complaints? After six weeks of driving on these tires, I find them quite smooth and quiet. I feel most confident, safe and love the handling. I can only surmise something else was going on with the vehicles of those complaining about noise. I put these on a Roaster Convertible where my head/ear is close to the rear tire; absolutely no noise from tires with top up or down. Highly Recommend! June 16, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Handled great....but poor milage I purchased these tires to replace the ones I had on my Ford 2014 Escape. My scape came with 19 inch tires so I bought the pilot as3 hoping to get better mileage in a better ride .I got the better ride but the mileage was terrable. All four tires had to be replaced after 19000 miles as opposed 45000 mile warranty. Had them for less than a year and now it appears they are no longer available. May 19, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by michelin tires wearing out at 20000 miles. Did not perform well on ice and snow. I thought I may have had a bad batch from the factory. These came on the car. Very disapointed. Never had tires that wore out this quickly in 50 years of driving. handles ok in warmer weather. I regret saying this my previous expereince with Michelin was they made very good tires. sorrey about the spelling as I can't find the spell check. May 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by smooth riding, quiet, and good traction excellent wet grip. quiet and smooth running. June 17, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Harsh O-MGSH. I have a Lincoln MKT (large luxury SUV) and noticed splits in the sidewalls of a lesser brand tire after only 10K miles. Had them pulled off and bought the Pilot AS3's bc they're one of two that Michelin makes for my SUV and they have a higher mileage warranty. Quite pricey, too. I had them a month, thinking they'd soften out and quiet down. NOT! They were OUTRAGEOUSLY LOUD. 40mph they hummed. 45 I had to turn to see how close the 4X4 mudder was to my quarter panel and there was no one anywhere near. At 60mph, you couldn't drown out the roar! Michelin has always stood by their products, so my Lincoln dealer went to bat for me and I switched them out (at an added cost) for their Latitude Sports (HEFTY upcharge!) and LOVE THEM! I'm extremely happy that Michelin stood up but feel badly that I was so unhappy with the Pilots. Not recommended for ANYBODY. You could actually feel them hum through your foot on the accelerator! (No lie) Can't imagine any application where these would be acceptable. (Sorry!) May 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great UHP all-season tire I just bought my second set of Michelin A/S 3 tires. I am a spirited driver, and these all season tires handle like high performance summer tires. The braking and handling are simply phenomenal. Handling is more important to me than treadwear or comfort, and I must admit that these tires are somewhat noisy. My first set did not last anywhere close to 45,000 miles, but I never really expected them to. If you need 3 season tires and don't want to sacrifice handling/braking, this is a great choice. If you will be doing a lot of driving in snow, you may want to consider other tires or buy a separate set for winter use. April 26, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Never Again I'd like to start off by stating two things: first, I drive A LOT (upwards of 40k miles a year) and second, I am the most passive, relaxed driver ever- no hard cornering, no hard braking, no hard acceleration, I'm basically a grandpa behind the wheel. I bought these tires to replace the OEM tires (not Michelin) that came with my car that needed replacing after just 26,000 miles hoping to get some longevity and slightly improved handling. At first, I was IN LOVE with them; there was added stability on the highway, they were quieter than the old tires, I felt safe, and they got me through the snow of a Utah winter without any fuss. This past Saturday, I had my tires rotated and found out that two are down to 5/32 and the other two are down to 4/32. These tires are 2 and 3/32 of an inch away from being to the wear bars after just...wait for it...19,000 miles. I bought these tires last September, and they are about already worn, not to mention reduced my MPG average by about 4 per tank...that's almost 60 miles less per tank than I was getting before. I am so disappointed in Michelin. These tires haven't even made it through half of their rated milage and will probably need replacing around 32,000 miles, a whopping 13,000 less than their warranty. Michelin doesn't care. I wouldn't recommend these to my worst enemy. They look nice and that's about it. April 26, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by I had high expectations for this tire. After many years of owning several sets of the A/S Plus version of this tire, I had high hopes for the A/S 3 when it was announced. I got 53k miles out of my A/S Plus in 245/40-19 front and 275/35-19 rear which is incredible mileage. I drive conservatively (I'm back on my stock sizes of 225/50-18 and 245/45-18) and have only managed to get 13k miles out of the A/S 3's in the rear. I have alignments done regularly and the wear is even. The fronts look nearly new and I don't track my car either. The tire is great in traction and has a nice ride assuming it will last. I had longer life out of the Pilot Sport summer tire on my previous vehicle. This is an otherwise phenomenal tire but the lack of longevity kills it for me on the all season rating. I would expect this from a summer tire but against the backdrop of my experience with the A/S Plus, the very short lifespan is disappointing to say the least. February 23, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great tire if it lasted I love Michelin tires and when I got my new Audi A6 in 2014 I pulled the stock tires and out these on as they had great reviews and I always felt Michelin tires are superior. Well, these tires ride and handle great and are quiet. I was shocked when I was in for an oil change at 14,100 miles and they told me I need tires soon. 4/32 on two tires and 5/32 on the other two, what? I had pure summer tires that held up better than these. Also, had a competitors UHP A/S uni-directional tires that cost half as much that lasted far longer than these. Considering the Michelin price premium I will be replacing these with anothe brand soon. If you do not mix them wearing out early then these are great tires, otherwise find something else. January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tire Second set of these I bought, I replaced the stock Tires on my 2012 Charger with them and the stock set on our 2010 370z roadster. : Comment on the charger, the only thing I didn't like was the appearance in a 20" low profile I could see a lot of the tread pattern and there appeared to be a lot of space in the wheel well. However they rode great. Comment on the 370z, opposite of the charger, in a 19" staggered size they fill the wheel well. Stock Tires only lasted 10k. We will see how these hold up, should be 22k since I can't rotate them. January 15, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tires Purchased these tires for a 370 Z Roadster. They replaced the OEM tires which had 24K. I have approx. 450 miles and so far I am very impressed. Even in a Roadster, I can tell that these tires are quieter and the ride, grip, and handling have all improved over the replacements. I highly recommend these tires. Will post again after about 5K miles. December 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Ride So far I'm very happy with these tires. My suspension is relatively stiff. This has been the most comfortable performance A/S tire I've had on the car. In warm dry conditions spirited runs through Willow Springs Raceway approximates an average performance summer street tire. In the rain stopping and cornering is excellent. Best performance rain tire I've had on the car so far. December 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best ride ever! Our family relies on Michelin tires for all 5 of our vehicles. Recently I replaced my Primacy tires with the Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires and wow! what a wonderful difference!! The ride is incredibly smooth and the road noise is minimal. Definite noticeable improvement in how the car handles (acceleration, tracking and braking). I'm sold on these tires and can't wait to try them out in rain/snow conditions. Never thought I would actually look forward driving out in the rain and snow but these tires certainly give me the confidence to know I will be able to drive safely to any destination and under any conditons. December 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tires I recently purchased a set of pilot sport as 3 tires from a local retailer. They looked great when I put them on my car. They sound quiet on the road and have literally transformed the ride that the car provides. It makes the brakes work better, and saw a gain in mpg. Even my wife likes driving the car now. She has been fighting me for the keys. Funny thing is she has a set of Michelin's on her car. Guess she prefers the fact that my wagon handles like a go cart with the new lowered suspension and that these awesome tires have been installed. She even said that she can embarrass other more expensive sports cars, which gets her excited. Of course still obeying the posted speed limits. December 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A/S 3: A true allseason performance tire I have a 2014 MINI Roadster S. I have been driving since 1962 and autocrossing with success since 1995. I have driven on extreme performance tires, r-compound tires, and racing slicks, both dry and wet. Yesterday I brought home a set of 205/50-16 A/S 3's in the rain. Today it rained harder and I found the standing water puddle on my most driven back road. I heard the right front tire violently cutting through the water at 60 mph but it didn't even tug on the tire nor slow the car as that friendly puddle has always done before. The steering is light. Partly due to 10.5mm of tread and partly due to surprisingly low rolling resistance. Turn in is immediate. Well, surely there must be an actual delay but it is too small for me to perceive. Grip is somewhere well beyond the level I am willing to risk on a public road. They simply track no matter how fast I dare corner with them at gendarme and bad karma attracting speeds. For reference, the car on OEM tires understeered if I tried to have much of any fun cornering. That is, the tires lost grip and the car ran wide which is especially unnerving in a right hand turn with oncoming traffic. These are serious performance tires oh so well suited to a MINI driven in all weathers except snow blizzards and subzero temperatures. December 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pilot Sport A/S 3 on Miata Replaced OEM tires with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 on my 2011 Mazda MX-5 and immediately noticed a difference in handling, quietness and control. Car holds the road like it's on tracks. After researching thoroughly I believe the Michelins can't be beat for safety, longevity and quality of ride for a Mazda Miata/MX-5. I have about 1000 miles on the tires and feel much more confident driving now. November 20, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Wear life definitely not a 10 Purchased tires after reading all the websites and they sounded perfect. They did do a great job through the winter, but after 10k two tire need replaced, and 4k later the other two. Car was aligned at purchase, and tire were rotated at the next oil change. I wish I could say my wife races ever weekend, but just back and forth to work. The OEM tires made to 40k. November 15, 2014
