Load Range

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

Tire Class

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

Tread Type

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable Family Tire My Family has depended on Michelin tires since 2004 and almost 200,000 miles. They have provided years of reliability and stability on both highway and the occasional off road adventure. They wear evenly and provide excellent mileage. The only thing that I would make better is Lower the COST... That way everyone could enjoy them the way my familt has. Jon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love relationship with michelins. I ran a set of these 121000 miles on a 1995 chev surburban. Balanced & rotated every 5000 miles at SAMs. They were still smooth but would not pass inspection. I have a set now on a 2012 gmc Yukon. Love them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traction counts I purchased Michelin LTXA/T2 tires to replace the factory tires on my Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel . I could never trust the original equipment tires as they would loose traction on wet roads , in turns and at starting on on ramps merging in traffic.. I have had no issues with the Michlelins they are great and give you that confidence on wet or dry roads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best tire for me I put these Michelin LTX A/T2 tires on my 2011 Chevy 2500HD when the tires that came with the truck (not Michelin) wore out after 24,000 miles. I chose the A/T2 because I live in snow country and I pull a 27' fifth wheel trailer when I travel. These tires are, hands down, the best tires I have ever owned. They ride smooth and quiet, and they handle the snow and mud in my rural northern AZ community with ease. I used to buy tires based solely on purchase price, but these Michelin tires have definitely changed my mind about that strategy. Braking seems improved from the other tires that were on this truck when I bought it, particularly when pulling the fifth wheel around the country. Handling characteristics are great on my crew cab truck with these tires and the ride is very nice. I will buy this tire again when I need new tires for this truck and Michelin's will be put onto my wife's car when the time arrives. I am definitely a Michelin man from here on out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! My tires are amazing! The tires have given me a smooth ride with very little road noise! Because I continue to rotate my tires I already gone 35,000 miles on them and still have many more miles to go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tire. Best tires I have ever owned. I have a set on two pick-ups. One set on a half-ton for work and the other set on a one ton for personal use. On the work truck, driven mostly on the highway, the set has travelled 60,000 miles. I am expecting another 10,000, hoping for 20,000 more miles. On the personal truck, not used as often but driven mostly for fishing and hunting trips on both paved and dirt/gravel roads, I have amassed a little over 35,000 miles and the tires still look new. It is kept outside with wheel covers over the tires when I remember to put them on. But it appears the sun has not harmed them significantly. In the winter, on snow covered roads, is when the tires really shine. My confidence is high knowing traction will be there when I want it. When the truck gets away from me, I know that the sure footedness will be there to get me straightened out. When it is time to purchase new tires, the decision is easy. It is Michelin LTX A/T2's for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First class tire Another Homerun by Mich This tire is another fantastic tire from Michelin. I installed them on my Isuzu Ascender and with 25,000 miles they still look and perform like brand new. They are excellent in both wet weather and snow. I don't typically go off roading so I can't attest to their off road abilities, but they are the best tire for the money for my use. While certainly not the cheapest alternative, they more then pay for themselves with their longevity. I have previously had the original AT tires and got in excess of 75,000 miles and they still passed state inspection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding for Horse Truck and Trailers We have used the Michelin LTX tire with very impressive results exclusively on our four horse trailer with living quarters along with our 1 ton Ford F350. These tires will run between 40-50 thousand miles with impressive service life. Currently we are on our 3rd set of tires so that's a total of 30 tires we have experience with. The 150,000 miles has all been loaded with horses that we tow all over the Western US. Each weekend we make the trip from Sacramento over the sierra Nevada mountains to our Ranch in Reno. Snow and Rain never stop us and the tire delievers when it is most required. This tire is a must for all equestrian enthusiasts for performance and safety.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tire makes you want to keep drivin I am a volunteer Firefighter and get called out in all weather conditions,it's great to know that I can trust that I can get to the station to help others in need. Not only are they a great tire in snow and wet pavement but I can be confident off the road and down some rough lanes. These Michelin tires are also much more quiet than my previous tires and hold the road better. My wife and I were considering selling the vehicle before we changed to Michelin tires because of the ride, but when we put on the Michelin tires it made a world of difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good looking tire I researched different tires for my Trailblazer and wanted tires good in snow and gravel/sand for boat launching. I have not been disappointed. I am especially amazed at how they function in snow, and seem to grip quite well even on ice. I cannot comment on wear as I've had them just 10,000 miles so far, but they seem to be wearing reasonably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this product. Have use these tires on our Jeep Liberty in Colorado, where weather conditions can be very extreme and switchy. The AT/2s have provided great rain, snow and ice traction for my wife's daily trip to her school where she teaches. We live fifteen miles out town and three miles down a dirt and gravel road at a 7000 foot elevation.
