Load Range

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

Tire Class

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

Tread Type

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 520
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Maxxis CV-01 Escapade CUV is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires I've only had the tires for 3 weeks now, but they seem to be very good. Good traction, had to drive through some deep sand and wet roads, and not very noisy. Well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GREAT FOR A PRICE great tire for a price, very good gripping ( traction) on a dry or wet road. Nice handling in turns. The only downside I can notice is that they are producing more noise then the ones I had

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product--Highly Recommended I have just purchased these tires and have driven less than 1000 miles on them. Compared with the Bridgestone RFT's that were on the car, these tires excel in every way. Ride is extremely comfortable and compliant. Excellent wet traction. I love the look of them as well--they look aggressive and sporty. I feel however, there is a tad more road noise, though it is only noticeable to me with the windows down. With the windows up, they are just as quiet as the previous tires. If these last anywhere near the 60K mile warranty, and the quality remains throughout their life, I will be a devote customer for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded expectations Have not had to buy tires in quite awhile as I normally leased a vehicle. Owning this vehicle and doing my research on value and quality, I was a little apprehensive on the Maxxis tire due to the price. Tires are rated higher speed and weight capacity than my stock Michelin tires at a much lower price. I took the chance and with over 5K miles on them I was pleasantly surprised. Tires handled great on dry roads and just had a large amount of rain here in So. Cal. and handled just as good. If there is a negative just a little more tire noise than the Michelins though not enough to be a nuisance. I have a Lincoln MKX AWD. Time will tell if they keep performing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality tire I was drawn to this tire by it's unique tread design, good reviews and bargain price. The tires look great on my Acura RDX. They are quieter then the OE Michelins and have seen a 1-1.5 increase in mpg on trips. They corner very well and handle rain and snow flawlessly. I have 6000 miles on them so far and hope to get at least 40000 plus on them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Maxis cv-01 Tires are reasonable in price and perform as well as more expensive name brands. I purchased these tires and computerized wheel balance and all wheel alignment. traveling at highway speeds in inclement weather and in high temperatures the tires were quiet and responsive in these conditions. I would recommend these tires to other drivers .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought these tires based on previous reviews, thus far they've lived up to the results. My prefered tires are Michelins, but this time I was looking for a tire that was as good as a Michelin at a better price. by comparison they are living up to the good reviews the price was excellent, they're quiet and the ride is as good as the Michelins. They have a sporty and stylish look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great tires These tires are quiet and ride really well. I have had them on two longer road trips with some stop and go local traffic in between. They seem to hold the road better than the Michelin that I had before. I hold up for anywhere near the 60000 mile rating, I will replace them with another four of these. Also - a first rate job by my local Pep Boys with the install and service. -thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tires for the price I am a taxicab company owner and this is the first time I have purchased a set of these for one of the fleets and I must say, they look as good and ride as well as the stock tires did. I am not driving aggressively, just leisurely rolling through picking up and dropping off people, and they are great for this purpose. Lots of value in these inexpensive tires

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and look! At first I was skeptical, but these tires are much better than I thought they'd be. Our 5-month-old loves the smooth ride and they're surprisingly soft. I like a more aggressive tread pattern and these certainly have that. Not noisy at all on the freeway and takes the potholes in stride. A+ for us! (2010 Ford Edge SEL AWD)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value so far For me, it is difficult to rate a tire until it has several thousand miles on it. This is becouse new tires always behave so much better than the warn out set they replaced. That said, in the few thousand miles we have driven, the Maxxis has done very well. We purchased the Maxxis CV-01 Escapade CUV from Pep Boys online, had them shipped to our local store and had them installed. Everything went well and there were no problems at all. We purchased these tires after alot of online comparisons and looking at reviews. So far all of the reviews I have read are positive. The free rotations included with the tire installation and the 60,000 Mile warrenty, is what sold us on this tire and the local Pep Boys. We purchased 4ea. 255/60R17 tires and had them installed on a 2003 Mercedes Benz ML 320. The service was excellent, the tires seems to be performing excellent and the price was fair concidering the tire size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality at half auto dealorship price Found these tires at Pep Boys after receiving a very pricey proposal from my auto dealership. Maxxis had same specs at more than 50 percent less cost. Since purchase, have travelled over 5000 miles roundtrip east coast to rockies. Tires have been excellent in rain and snow, at elevations over 10,000 feet, in 10 degree and 80 degree temperatures, and at high speeds. Car handles very well, meaning they were properly installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, very good Put the tires on the wife's Lexus RX 400h CUV. Mileage is a couple of miles lower than with Michelin super-low rolling-resistance tires, but tires feel quieter, grippier and much more capable in the snow. They look great, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tires! These tires have been great so far. Makes car very connected to the road. Drove during dry and rain weather and delivered better that expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great tires These tires are good quality for the price. Have very good traction for not being snow tires.
