Load Range

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

Tire Class

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

Tread Type

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 720
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Excellent Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Excellent Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Excellent LowRolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst tires I have ever had! The noise from these tires is deafening. I have never had tires that were so loud. I don't even enjoy riding and/or driving in my SUV with these tires on my vehicle. I would not recommend them to anyone and will absolutely let people know that they should never purchase the Latitude Tour tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best choice tire I ever make After more than 24K miles driving, this set of tire still look, runs, and handling like new. I am glad to choose this tire instead of other brand. In price comparison, its may cost little more but, I trust Michelins' quality. It runs very quiet on freeway and when you get off ramp, It will not skipping like the other brand tire come with the new car. Rolling resistance is good, don't feel drag at all. It's an excellent tire, I did not feel sorry as other tire(s) I purchased in the past (for the other car) after just few month of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tire Replaced the soft rubber factory tires on our 2010 Honda CRV AWD with these and have been very happy. The ride is very comfortable and the wear so far after 15K miles has been acceptable. Braking is very good on these as well. We didn't have as much snow last in the Western MD area as in previous years but when we did have snow these tires worked great at pulling the car through it. I'm a Michelin man all the way and all the tires on our 4 family cars are all Michelin's!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Tires for my Lexus The Latitude tire is a well handling tire that I am not afraid to take off the highway as they perform as well on the highway as off it. We noticed the difference immediately as soon as we had these tires mounted on our Lexus RX and they are also much more quiet than the previous type tires that were on previously.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always Michelin-Always the best I replaced LTX M/S on my Element for a better ride. This tire really improved my comfort level. A little smother ride over the bumps. I will always stay with Michelin. My last 4 cars had Michelin. They have the best wear and ride for the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tire Michelin tires have been good for my everyday use and vacation travel. Quiet road noise. The tire wear has been below what I had on the cross terrain but better than average as I now have 40k of mileage

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tire I Ever Owned I have installed Michelin tires on my cars, trucks and SUV's for around 15 years now. These Latitude Tour tires happen to be on my Mercury Mariner Hybrid that I drive everyday. I have had them on for just over 500 miles and they are by far the smoothest tire I have ever had. They are also very quite and I have gain 1.34 mile per gallon. I drive a lot so anything to help with gas mileage is a big plus. If you are looking to purchase a new set of tire these are the best on the Market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and Smooth 67,000 miles on my first set of Michelins (rotated every 12K); half those miles through 2 years of major highway construction without a flat or damage (windshield not so fortunate). Best tires I have owned, so I purchased a new set. Worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, apperance, and ride TOP NOTCH! Our family searched the internet for a value in price, performance, quality, and overall satisfaction. While leaning toward saving money we did not want to compromise safety and longevity, or overall tire quality. Our search led us to the Michelin Tour for our Chrysler Pacifica. We could not be more pleased with the results of our selection in tires. The tires are wearing within stated terms of life expectancy. Our vehicle rides softly and superbly with no noise and no tire vibration. Handeling in rain and on hot roads is beyiond expectation. Stopping distances are well within and excede our expectations. If your looking for an all around value (price- performance- quality) the Michelin Tour is an excellent choice. One which I am certain you will not regret.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tire for my Truck and my Buck! Great tires!! I have these on my 2008 GMC Short bed regular cab truck. It has an excellent ride, very smooth. Also with the truck being very light in the back they grip the road in wet conditions very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ride and handling! I wanted a tire to provide a comfortable ride that would have good handling and breaking in all weather conditions. With the Michelin Latitude Tour I have not been disappointed. These new tires give my old car a new car feel and they make me feel safe when driving in rain, snow or dry pavement. I am very satisfied with these tires and will definately buy Michelins for my next tire purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and Quiet I put these Latitude Tour tires on this Hylander Hybrid when I was employed by Michelin. I'm now retired. The tires now have over 70,000 miles on them and still have useable tread. People who ride with me comment on how comfortable the ride is. Even when the car is not in electric mode I notice how quiet it is, virtually no tire noise. Great tires!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank you Michelin My wife and I just returned from a 2700 mile trip from Florida to Pennsylvania and back. Prior to departure I had a new set of Michelin Latitude tires installed on our vehicle. Thank god for the tires as it rained every day of the 14 day trip and most roads were not known to me. Narrow roads, Interstate Highways, winding mountain roads, excessive traffic in non rural areas, and highway construction were just some of the obsticles, not to mention the addition of down pours occassionally. The Michelin tires preformed admirably and clinched any idea of what tire to buy when needed. Travel is tediuos enough, you don't need to add worry of vehicle preformance to that concern. Again, THANK YOU, MICHELIN. . . Ron Mills

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tire We purchased 4 Latitude Tours for our car because the reviews were excellent, they were $200 less than the OEM replacement tires and the reputation of the MIchelin tires are very well known. The ride of these tires vs the original is like "night & day" as it's a softer and quieter ride and the 2-3 mph increase in gas mileage is great and the life of the tire exceeds that of the OEM brand. We are definitely sold on Michelin tires and will buy nothing else when we purchase new tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from after 13,00 miles , still handling great THESE TIRES ARE GREAT HANDLING AND GOOD FOR GAS MILEAGE, BUT ARE SOMEWHAT LOUD ON ROUGH ROADS
Date published: 2013-08-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great All Around Tire Of all the vehicles and tires I have owned over the years, this is hands down one of the best. I have had two sets of the them now on my Ford Escape (All wheel drive) Hybrid. The first set got my to about 52,000 miles, and had I remembered to rotate them appropriately, I could've gotten another 10,000 to 15,000 miles out of them. This includes mostly regular town roads, with some extended road trips around New England. Even though these are not considered to be the most aggressive tread, with my Escape, snow was no match for me. The tires helped the SUV handle like a champ in rain, ice, and snow. When this set reaches the end of their life, I would most certainly purchase these tires again. They are well worth the money invested!!!!
