Load Range

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

Tire Class

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

Tread Type

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 720
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Michilin LTX M/S 2 We just had 48 straight hours of rain and during the entire time I felt very safe and secure knowing that I had these tires on my truck. I felt like I had control of my vehicle the entire time I was on the road. I am very pleased with my purchase and have peace of mind going into winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Want the best, get the Michelin LTX2 This is my second set of the LTX M/S, but this time I went with the LTX M/S2. Smooth ride, rugged, go anywhere, tackle any terrain. I can use any surface or no surface at all when I am using the back roads of Virginia (some of these roads really would not be considered back roads) but the ride, and the performance from the LTX M/S2 are fantastic. I would give this product, 5 STARS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic tires I am now replacing the originals on my Escape after 88,000 miles and there is still a little tread left. I could run them, but I transport my mom and granddaughter all the time and want the safest tires possible. I am putting on the same kind of tires as I have because my warranty goes for another 100,000 miles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LTX M/S2LT Back about a year and a half ago I purchased these tires knowing that the wife was going to be the main driver with this truck! With my medical condition I can't really drive, so I needed a real true and dependable tire That would last and handle the road in just about any condition. We dont drive off road ar play anything like that! These tires give a real comfortable ride ( Even though this is a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500.) We have been in some majior rain storms here in Florida and these tirese Handeled the road with no problem with the wife behind the wheel!! There are a lot of crazy drivers here and there has been many of times where the wife has needed to really use the brakes and weather it was dry or pouring rain These tires held true to the road and sure didn't end up in the other lane As we have done in the past with other majior name brands. I must say thank you for these tires becaus I didn't have to worrie when the wife is out alone and needs to react fast for the condition!! I will say that these tires make this a more safer vehicle all around! Thank You! I HOPE THE TIRE NUMBER ARE RIGHT? LTX M/S2 20"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Michelin LTX M/S2 I prefer Michelin tires and have always replaced lesser tires with Michelin when the time came. Love the tires on my truck now...ride is smooth and feels like a new truck - no joke. However, Michelin through me a loop when I tried to find tires. Using the Tire Finder on Michelin's website indicated no tires were available for my truck. I then went to a dealer website to determine my options when the above tire popped as a match. I went back to the Michelin website, found the tire, and confirmed my truck's eligibility. Would encourage Michelin to "fix" their Tire Finder app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Michelin m/S2 I put a set of Michelin M/S2s on my 2004 F-150 FX4. Thses tires provide a very quiet and smooth ride, and appear to be wearing well. My initial impression is that these tires were a very smart purchase. Highly recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tires I purchased the tires for my 2010 F150 4wd. I use this truck for everything, but it is primarily driven on pavement. I have had the truck in snow, mud, and rocky terrain and the tires provided better traction than I had anticipated. The tires are perfect for what I use them for, but I would recommend a more aggressive tread pattern if you spend more time off road driving. The tires are quiet with no vibrations, and the tread wear is very good. I have a little over 20k miles on them and still plenty of tread left. They handle great on wet, snowy, and dry roads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires These tires do exactly what tires are supposed to do - they grip the road very well; they have worn very well; they ride very well. I have tried other brands of tire (because the other brands came with the cars) and have switched to Michelin tires because of their quality and value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value, Performance and Safety Purchased these tire for my daughter. At the time she was a student and doing a lot of traveling on the NYS Thruway. I wanted a safe and dependable tire that was good in snowy conditions. Did my homework to insure I was making the righ decision. The tire has been performing excellent. Great breaking in dry, wet and snowy conditions. To date wear has been minimal. On occasion have traveled through deep snow and was very happy with tire traction. Very important in the North East. I would highly recommend this tire. I have a 2009 Envoy and I would have bought a pair for it, but unfortunately they don't manufacture my size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MICHELIN LTX MS2 P265/70R17 I love the ride very smooth. I am comparing your tire the to the other sets of new tires nicknamed the Cadillac tires for a truck, I felt like I was always driving over stones. I have to say these Michelins are wonderful. My first set in many years don't know why I ever bought any other tire. I guess the more something cost or what you hear from the person selling it does not always mean its a better ride. The ride in my life is important to me. Thank you Michelin for producing a great tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tire - great value I made it to 40,000 miles on the original tires on my Ford F-150, with tires that normally don't go nearly that far. The key was proper balance, air pressure, and rotation (every 5,000 miles). Even though I nearly doubled the average miles on those tires, I knew the tire that would replace the originals would have to do better. I checked some on-line blogs and Consumer Reports. Everything seemed to point to Michelin. I have been a Michelin customer for years, so this was not a hard sell for me. I bought the Michelin LTX M/S2 tires at the end of December, so I'm going on about 9 months of testing. So far, I would absolutely buy them again. They're rugged and ride well and they have the best balance (in my opinion) of roll resistance and rubber compound. Stopping distances are not longer than with the original equipment tires and they take bumps very well. I was concerned about tread life vs. traction, but again, the balance of the mileage expectation and the ability to stop and make it confidently through a curve have not been compromised. Since no tire is impervious to road hazards, I purchased the hazard insurance. The feeling of security with this tire makes me confident in putting my family in this truck knowing I've done all I can to make it as safe as possible. I recommend this brand as well as this particular tire, and I will very likely purchase more in the future. Oh, did I mention my average MPG has gone up two tenths? That may not sound like a lot, but over the life of the vehicle, it adds up. Since I check the mileage with every gas purchase to ensure everything's working as it should, I can tell you, the numbers are accurate.

I five star tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my first michelins bought a set of LTX MS/2 a year ago and let me tell you its the best set of tires ive ever purchased, there are awsome at wet traction and very good at hard stops, does not warp, uncap or egg at all. i like how they have the tiny michelin man wear indicators on them. very high quality tire with 70,000 treadwear warranty you could not resist. i bet i can get over a 100,000 miles out these tires- the wheel bearings il go before they do. ive seen michelins that are 10 years old. and still hardley any dry rotting. very good a holding air pressure too. they even look good i have them mounting black side out where it shows the michelin man& logo. i have the 265 70r 18 mounted on a nissan titan and these ride smoother than the factory ones i replaced. overall the best built tire out there. i recommend anyone who is going to spend their money on tires: do it right the first time and get michelin. you get what you pay for. ive compared these to other tires and hands down michelin got everybody beat. here in the south we say ROLL"EM TILL THEY POP!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would by this product again I am more than pleased with my Michelin truck Tires. Ihave always wanted them but kept putting it off because I wanted to purchase all four at the same time. I live in Arizona and have to contend with quite a mixture of weather. Snow in the winter time (Mountains), rain and heat in the spring, fall, and summer. The tread is like brand new, and works well in the rain when surfaces are very slick. I will be putting them on my new car very shortly so that both vehicles are safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest tire ever I put 120,000 yes 120,000 miles on my LTX M/S2 on a 3/4 ton pickup. I think they are the greatest tire ever. Quiet and smooth on the highway, the off road capabitities were better than average, and they were great in the snowy Minnesota winters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires These tires came on my GMC Sierra 3500 Denali Duly. I was elated to see that these were the tire of choice by the OEM because of their reputation and my personal experience with Michellin tires. I have 42,000 miles on them & they look like new with a lot of tread life remaining! Not only have they performed great, but they've have served me well over 25,000 miles while trailering a 40' fifth wheel! I will not put any other brand on my vehicles!

Great replacement tire for the smooth ride on Mich roads which are in poor condition. I wii update this posting when it snows!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Want Comfort? If you want comfort when driving, these may be the tires you are looking for. After major research and feedback from the tire shop, I decided to purchase the Michelin LTX M/S2 tires in November 2011. This has been a purchase I never regretted making. These are tires are what customers were raving about, plus more. I love the comfort and handling on the road. They're smooth in dry and wet conditions. Sure, you may spend a little more to purchase these tires; but the dismal additional expense is well worth it. I love these tires!
