Load Range

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

Tire Class

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

Tread Type

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear: 500
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Excellent Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Excellent Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Excellent High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Cooper Zeon RS3-A is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tires and even better price Tires went on 2009 Genesis V8. Online purchase and install scehduling was easy. Tires were at the store for my scehduled apptointment, I was out the door in about 1 hr. Tires ride/handle very well and are quiet. Traction in the snow is much better then OE tires (given this is a rear wheel drive vehicle). I drove 5 hours yesterday in a heavy rain storm, tires did great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "So far so good" I have had these tires for a few weeks now, and i cant complain, they are everything I expected.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure if the pros outweigh the cons I chose these tires based on a number of factors, including reviews, cost and need this type of weather tire. The costs for the size I needed was spot on. So far, I have had to drive in rain (excellent handling without concerns about hydroplaining), snow (impressive grip), and the melt/refreeze of snow-turned-hard icy mess (decent traction again for the size tire I need). They also absorb bumps nicely. The one con, and this is a huge dissapointment for me, was that these tires are loud - and I mean LOUD! They sound like tank treads and they not only reverberate throughout the car, they make everything in the car that isn't bolted down, vibrate like crazy. So far, the colder the temperatures, the worse the road noise. Definitely something to keep in mind if you are considering this low profile model!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires I put these tires on my '06 Volvo S60 R and really like the way they handle. Even had a light snowfall right after I got them and they performed well. No slipping or sliding. Liked them so much I bought another set for my '03 Mustang Cobra that had summer tires that were pretty worn, so it was time to get new ones. Always garaged the Cobra in the cold weather, but am looking forward to driving all year around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Appealing to the eyes The tires are very stylish looking and handle well in rain and during dry conditions. Their only set back would be that they are very noisy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good grips Once the break-in is done, it's very quiet on the highway. Tire grip is good on snow/ice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Tires are Great I really got to test and see just how great these tires are this week after the rain, snow and ice we received the Temple Hills Maryland area. There was no slipping or skidding. I felt really good driving in the bad weather with these tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional handling in all conditions! Excellent price with rebates and discount! These tires handle well on dry and wet roads. Replaced the OEM Goodyear tires at 37k on my 2012 Nissan Maxima and am very pleased so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice ride put 2500 miles on them so far and the have provided a smoother ride than the oem continentals. Great traction in the rain, awesome traction when dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tire on wet ground This tire has excellent traction on wet rainy roads. Don't know that I've ever had a better tire for the grip. Actually tried to break the tires loose, (didn't floor it as I've got a supercharger), and they didn't during aggressive acceleration on wet road. I'll give another review after it snows. (ohio).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good UHP AS tire The Cooper RS3-A tire is a very capable and well mannered tire. The ride is a noticable improvement over stock, but has managed to retain the handling. They are also much quieter then my worn out OEM tires, possibly just because they are new. Hydroplaning resistance is great, along with dry traction. I haven't tried them in snow yet, but they seem promising from looking at the tread blocks. For the price it would be very hard to beat the wear rating and performance category. My only complaint is that they turned a light brown within a week. A good scrubbing and tire gloss every two weeks shines them right up and keeps them looking sporty. I would recommend to anyone looking for a sport tire feel with a touring tires wear rating and an all-seasons capability. Overall great value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tires I bought these for my 2007 Acura TL Type S. Fantastic tires, especially for the money. They improved my ride quality and are very quiet, but I did loose a little bit of handling response. However, its so slight, and ride quality improved so much that I do not care. I read some reviews that said they were loud on the road, well, I have no idea what those people were talking about, because they have been great for me. Only had them for about 1500 miles, so I can't comment on tread life or light snow/winter traction yet. However, most reviews say they are great in both categories, so I expect nothing less. I'd recommend these to anyone looking for an overall good performance all season with good wet, light snow, and summer traction that isn't looking to break the bank or have some uncomfortable tire. Great purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bargain UHP All Season The Zeon-RS3 series tire was developed by Cooper for the Roush Stage 3 mustang, which is why i purchased this tire over the OEM tire that came on my 2013 Premium Mustang. Both tires are comperable in price and are Ultra High Performance All Season (UHP AS) tires. So far I have 1,000 miles on these Coopers and they seem to be everything they claim to be. They are quieter then the OEM tire, responseive after the initail break-in period. I have to try fairly hard to break the rear end of the car away (on the track only), so the dry and wet grip is very good. Ride comfort is everything you could ask for in a UHP AS tire. The Zeon-RS3-A tracks straight on the road with very little tire noise, hopefully this continues past 10,000 miles. I havent had a chance to drive in snow, but they perform alright in gravel and packed dirt. I fully expect to surpass the 40,000 mile tread life expectancy. Overall I recommend this tire to anyone looking for a bargain Ultra High Performance All-season tire, especially anyone with a Mustang/Camero/Challenger/Charger.
