SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear:
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38

Grades:
A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 and 115 mph
C - Between 85 and 100 mph
Performance

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 313.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from For close to 13 years, ... For close to 13 years, BFG offroad tires have been the tire off choice for my Jeeps. The Mud Terrain T/A KM has taken me over everything from mud to rocks to sand to snow without fuss or performance loss. Being that it is an aggressive MT there is some road noise on the highway and some minor loss of traction on wet pavement. Siping would help to alleviate this, but I feel that would expedite wear. The high void lugs offer superior grip under all conditions and excellent self cleaning in mud. The compound is soft enough to grip, but stands up to sharp rocks with minimal chunking. The sidewalls offer superior cut resistance with plenty of deflection for conforming to terrain. If you're looking for an aggressive offroad tire at a decent price that stands up to severe conditions with minimal sacrifice of on road wear and handling, this is the tire for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tires to have on ... Great tires to have on your "take me to work and to the lake via some back roads" vehicle. I have always been a fan of BFG's and the Mudds are a great compliment to the road and off the beaten path. the BGF mudds are not too aggresive that you dont want them for everyday driving but stong and sure footed enough to be confident off road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Old School Mud ... The Old School Mud Terrain (KM) tires Rock. They are the best mud terrain around. Not sure why they changed to the new KM2. The KM's look and ride much better than the new ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These tires are very ... These tires are very aggressive for trail use in our area, yet are quiet for the ride home. Excellent all-around tire for a Jeep.

Date published: 2010-11-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good tire in the mud ... Very good tire in the mud and snow. It could be siped for better ice traction. The wear was average for a tire of this type. The price is a little steep for the performance of the tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great off-road tire, ok ... Great off-road tire, ok on the road. Can slide when braking hard, esp w/ lifted vehicle. Excellent in mud and rocks. Have never had a puncture off-road. A little noisy on highway, but not unbearable, can't hear over radio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good all around ... Very good all around tire, had them on (35x12.50R15) on my stock wheels on my 1992 Ford Bronco. I have had nothing but great experiences with these tires. I also purchased one All Terrain TA K/O to go along with it, one of the MT's finally went flat about a year ago and I put the all terrain in. I'm amazed at how well the tire wear on it is. There is a lot of tread left. Well there it is, just wanted to add that I'm. Going to be in the market for new tires and wheels with my income tax return and I'm building my rig on a 16 year olds mcdonads salary so times are hard sometimes. Will definitely me checking out the KM2's.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from These tires do not wear ... These tires do not wear out fast, and are a good all around off road tire. although this tire is great on the rocks, a more aggressive lug pattern, with larger voids would be better. This would prevent mud from packing into the tread, and provide better traction.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from These were on a 2008 Land ... These were on a 2008 Land Rover LR3 and they were used primarily off road. New, they were excellent, but after only a few thousand miles, they became exceedingly load and rough. I realize they are an aggressive tread, but the degredation was I think premature

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The previous set of Mud ... The previous set of Mud Terrains that I had on my F350 lasted 75,000 mile with about 20% of the use off road. They handled mud and snow very well, Ice was kind of slippery but better than some. The only complaint I have about them is that as the tread wore down close to replacement time they got noisier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tire. It is quite ... Awesome tire. It is quite enough on the road, grips sand like no ones business, plows through snow, grips ridiculous on ice. Always has grip plain and simple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used BFG MT and MT ... I have used BFG MT and MT KMs on various jeeps for a long time now in lots of sizes over the last 40 years or so. 31x10.5R15s (two sets of 4) lasted 80,000 on a 1981 CJ8 30x9.5R15 on a 1946 CJ2a 33x9.5R15, 3312.5R15 and 35x12.5R15 on the 1982 CJ8, usually last 70,00 miles or so 255x85R16, and (33x10.5R15 these are actually AT KO on my fathers the 1974 CJ6 and finally 265x75R16 on the LJ rubicon. All of these tires have at a minimum of 65,000 miles of wear on them before then needed replacing with the exception of the 265x75R16 on the LJ, these need replaced now at 42,000 miles which disappointed me a little but it is TWICE the mileage that I got out of the stock good-a-years MTRs performance on the street in wet road conditions was a VAST improvement over the MTRs as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the 3rd vehicle I ... This is the 3rd vehicle I have had this same set of tires on, to me they have been what made each vehicle. They have worn extremely well, they perform great in mud, on rocks, on trails, but they tend to dig in sand, but that's not M/T territory anyway. I'm saving up for the next set now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I run these tires on my ... I run these tires on my Jeep Wrangler and they have never let me down. Treadlife is great run about 20k miles on them and still have quite a bit of tread left. They are great in mud and in sand. On rock they perform very well, however sidewall is a little soft for extreme rock crawling. Road manners are great they are not noisy considering for a MT tire. Overall this is a great tire and will be looking into getting the KM2's very soon. Thanks BFGoodrich

Currently have BF Goodrich Rugged Ridge on a 2003 Dodge Ram P/U & a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. When the current tires wear out on 2008 Jeep Unlimited we will definitely put them on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used these tires ... I have used these tires for many years and go offroad pretty regularly. I really do like them, my biggest complaint would be the tread chunking.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tread does not clean ... Tread does not clean well, packs with mud and snow. Wear bad compared to other brands. Price was good but is now higher that better performing tires. Needs more sidewall protection. They are quiet on the road. I have had several pairs of these tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My pops has been running ... My pops has been running these tires on every 4x4 we've had for 25+ years and I will continue to do the same. They just keep taking abuse and never go flat. The sidewall is strong yet comfortable and the tread grabs everything. Had a set that was worn down to the wear bar and had been sitting for about 9 years. Gave them to a friend who ran them for 6 months with no issues. He was so conviced that he bought a brand new set to replace the old tired ones.
Date published: 2010-11-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from These tires are very ... These tires are very durable. They are outstanding offroad, and offer very decent longevity (considering their aggressive tread pattern).
