SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Safety Rating is a combination of two values: Load Index and Speed Rating for P-Metric and Euro Metric tire sizes; and Load Range and Speed Rating in the case of heavy duty LT (light truck) sizes.

Speed Rating is based on the speed that the tire is designed to be driven at for extended periods of time. All tires in the in the U.S. are designed to maintain legal U.S. speed limits. The speed rating of tires must match the maximum driving speed of the vehicle.

Load Index is used on P metric and Euro Metric sized tires and denotes a tire's load-carrying capacity at a specified inflation pressure. The load index is represented by a number, the higher the Load Index Value the greater the load the tire can safely carry. Vehicle manufacturers recommend a maximum load capacity based on a recommended minimum load index.

TIRE CLASS

Tire Class reflects how the tire will be used. There are four major categories: All-Season, Max Performance, Summer-Only and Winter-Use.

All-Season tires are suitable for year-round driving in all weather conditions.

Summer-Only & Max Performance tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving. Tire compound, tread design and speed ratings all combine to hug the road and maintain grip. Summer tires by nature are not ideal for winter driving due to lack of siding to grip winter roads.

Winter-Use tires have tread compounds and patterns that are specially designed for grip on snowy or icy road surfaces. They are not suitable for year-round use. The rubber compound used will wear more quickly on dry, summer roads. It is recommended that winter tires are fitted as a complete set to avoid potential handling issues.

TREAD TYPE

Tread Type is an important consideration when choosing a tire. There are four main types: Passenger, Highway, All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain.

Passenger denotes a tread that is suitable for normal use, a good all-round tread for normal driving.

Highway is a tread type unique to SUV and truck tires. The tread is optimized for normal everyday driving on paved surfaces. These tires can be driven off pavement, but are not ideally suited for off road traction. Highway tread patterns deliver a quiet ride.

For light trucks and specialty vehicles, All-Terrain tread types provide better off-road traction than standard highway truck tires. There more aggressive tread tends to be less quiet on paved roads. All Terrain tires are suitable for everyday use.

Mud-Terrain treads are specifically designed with wider tread blocks and higher void ratios to gain traction in off-road conditions. Mud Terrain tires can generate higher noise levels and tend to carry lower mileage warranties than other tread designs.

UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grade

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) is made up of three values: treadwear, traction and temperature.

Treadwear is a relative numeric score, based on manufacturer tests, showing how well a tire can be expected to wear compared to other tires. A higher score means a tire could be expected to wear better.

Traction measures the tire's ability to stop a vehicle on wet roads. It doesn't reflect a tire's acceleration, cornering, or hydroplaning performance. Traction grades range from AA (highest) to C (lowest).

Temperature grades the tire's ability to withstand heat build-up, with A being the highest grade and C the lowest.

A - Over 115 mph
B - Between 100 to 115 mph
C - Between 85 to 100 mph
Treadwear:
Traction Asphalt - gForce
AA - Above 0.54
A - Above 0.47
B - Above 0.38
C - Less Than 0.38

C - Between 85 and 100 mph
Performance

Drive / Ride Performance Characteristics

All tires have the following six performance characteristics, divided into three sets of trade-offs. In most cases, a tire may perform excellently in one characteristic but only standard in the other.
Standard Ride Comfort & Standard Handling
Handling: Get stiff side wall for precise steering and cornering but settle for a firm ride with increased road noise.
Ride Comfort: Enjoy a quiet, smooth ride but lose some cornering ability.
Standard Treadwear & Standard Traction
Traction: Stop faster in wet conditions but expect a shorter tread life.
Treadwear: Get long, uniform wear across your tread pattern but expect less traction in wet conditions.
Standard Low Rolling Resistance & Standard High Speed Performance
High-Speed Performance: Get increased performance at higher speeds but sacrifice some fuel economy.
Low Rolling Resistance: Enjoy improved fuel efficiency but expect less high-speed cornering ability.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The tire works great for ... The tire works great for tow rigs and show vehicles, offroad the tread pattern is a baby krawler that doesn't work like the krawler does. After blowing a few sidewalls out I switched to MT/Rs on the trail rig. I still use KM2s on my tow rig but probably will switch them out when they wear down for an all terrain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this tire for my ... I bought this tire for my hunting vehicle.Excellant traction in mud, snow .I mean deep mud and snow. They never let me down. Also, very quiet on pavement for such an agressive tread. I used to use cooper sst, but these are better , especially longer wear, so that makes bfg 's a better value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The tires were great in ... The tires were great in the mud and snow, but still quiet and comfortable on the street. I never got stuck, partly because of the tires, but also part me. They were awesome.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from These KM2's were put on a ... These KM2's were put on a locked and long armed TJ 4.0 Sport. Took it for a trail ride in the snow with two wheel drive only. Later that same day took my 2005 Ford F-150 FX4 with 255/70 -17 Firestone Destinations AT's on same trail. The F-150 needed to be put in 4wd to climb the hills the Jeep made in 2wd with the KM2's. Great off Road Tire. The KM2's also have very low rolling resistence, so they should last a while properly inflated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've ran BFG's on the two ... I've ran BFG's on the two trucks I owned for the last 18 years. The first two sets were AT's and since my first set of MT's I owned, there has been no other tire run on my trucks. They are the best in all terrains that I have been in. Mud, snow, sand, lava rock here in hawaii, and very low noise on the highway for a mud terrain tire. The strength in the sidewalls is another reason I purchased them. These tires have stood up to the roughest conditions I have seen on this earth. AWESOME!

Tires have a great off road look without the loud noise that comes with most off road tires.tread life is also better by far than any other off road tire I have ever owned.i would recommend anyone that likes to go offroad and onroad without changing tires .This is a great tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After logging over ... After logging over 120,000 miles on my BFG M/T KM's, I decided to replace them with a set of KM2's. The older KM's are slightly better in deep mud, however, the new KM2's are much smoother, quieter and handle better in rain and snow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The best Mud terrain tire ... The best Mud terrain tire ever. These tire wear well for being such an aggressive tread pattern and didnt seem to decrease my fuel economy at all. The ride extremely well on the road as well as off road. The only thing that i don't like about the KM2 is a slight road noise when going down the road, but then again its an aggressive mud terrain.
Date published: 2010-11-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love the tires but use ... I love the tires but use them for everyday driving and the wear is not as good as something less extreme. Next time I will do with the regular T/A's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've had the BF Goodrich ... I've had the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2's on my Jeep for about 25k miles now and have been extremely impressed. The reason I bought them was for off-roading and boy do they work, the best I've had. Easily will go through any kind of mud, dirt, sand, etc. Very capable off-road tire. I was even more impressed by its on-road mannerisms. Im used to mud tires that are loud, vibrate and are hard to balance. Not these! These are very quiet and smooth and the most weight I had to put on a single tire to get it balanced was 3.75 grams. Al in all, there's are the best Mud-Terrain tire I have ever purchased. Will definately be buying these again! And I recomend them to everyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice good purpose ... Very nice good purpose built tire that works on the street.Could use more sipeing for the ice and snow covered roads. All around good tire with good road manners and exceptional offrad prowess.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well performing tire but ... Well performing tire but getting expensive. This tire performed well on many different terrains. I liked the way it cleaned out well. It was fairly sticky on snowy conditions. Mud was not an issue and using on rocks with low air pressure the sidewalls held up as expected. I'm a bit disappointed with how the prices keep raising on this tire and may search for a competitor with around the same review but less out of pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from only tire i could put on ... only tire i could put on my truck that didnt wear out in a year

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The KM2s are on another ... The KM2s are on another level compared to the other top selling mud terrain tire. They offer stronger sidewalls, equal or better traction, and less 'chunking' of the tread. This extra offroad performance does not result in loss of wear performance, braking performance, or additional road noise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good off-road tire. ... Very good off-road tire. Works well in sand, mud snow and rocks. Tie size is not ture to advertisment. I have 35x12.50x15, tie mounted on 8x15 rim measures at approx. 34x12.00x15. This is really my only complaint. One other Item, I don't feel the side walls are as strong as they could be. I have punctured two tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great overall tire, super ... great overall tire, super performance on bad weather and off road
Date published: 2010-11-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely amazing tire. ... Absolutely amazing tire. I've ridden on anything from the all-terrain to the original mud terrain but I must say I will not run N another tire other than BFG. Unmatched off road durability and performance coupled with the unbelievably tame and quiet on road characteristics. I even had a deer hit me at full speed in the tire and not even a chip in the sidewall. After selling tires for many years I've never seen an offroad tire ESP mud terrains that last thus long. Everyone around me rides BFG bc of me
