Rated 5 out of 5 by TMac This Stuff Is Fantastic
My local body shop wanted nearly $1000 to replace my front bumper. Instead, I ordered the black rust encapsulator and planned to cover it with a bra. After some minimal sanding, I applied two coats and it looks fantastic! I have the bra, but I don't even need it. It matches my front grill, so you don't even notice it's not painted metallic grey as it was. I would not hesitate to use this on anything that rusts. I told all my friends I would want to be a distributor I believe in this stuff so much. I also told them I would help with their projects as it was easy and enjoyable to work with. It covered and and sealed like a dream. I will be buying again soon.

I'm restoring a 66 Pontiac LeMans which has been sitting outside neglected for a long time. I have used the Encapsulator on the seat frames which were extremely rusted. After knocking off all the loose rust and power washing, I painted the frames. The spray is a good thick stream which covers all nooks and cranny s very well. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the paint. Only time will tell if it holds up to the humidity in my area.

This product is great, keeps rust away without top coating on parts I have stored for over a year. Any longer and you need to top coat with a quality paint. I use it on everything that I am not able to remove rust from completely before coating with paint or undercoating. Works great on floor panels before carpeting.

I restored a rusty jeep frame, blasted first then coated with Rust Encapsulator then painted over with Eastwoods 2K Aero-Spray Ceramic. Results look terrific. Time will tell how it holds up.

Amazing coverage! Some mentioned clogging. If you turn upside down and spray until nozzle is clear it doesn't clog!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer The Ultimate Product!
I am 53 years old and grew up in the automotive repair business, my father was a body man from before I was born so I have seen a lot of "The latest Thing" products come and go. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is the best rust product I have ever used bar none! I am currently restoring a 1971 Pontiac Lemans that is showing rust in the usual places, however beneath what you can see is the real culprit, it is rusted under the rear trunk panel to the point is was thin and weak, after prep and spraying with Rust Encapsulator, the strength of this rusted panel is incredible. One word of warning, wear clothing over every inch of skin as this stuff sticks to everything and sticks well. In a word? the ultimate Rust product! 5 stars straight across the board.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Applies as advertised_only time will tell
This product seems to be exactly what it says it is. Application was just as advertised. It did a nice job finding nooks and crannies, weeping through cracks that I did not know existed, even on top of the frame. I applied it to a small frame (Triumph GT6) and it seemed to take about 1.5 cans. Only time will tell if it actually prevents rust. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was that I have no idea if it will work over time and of course I cannot actually see in the frame to confirm coverage (though as mentioned above it seemed to 'go deep')

Rated 3 out of 5 by TC Good stuff, but they gotta work out some bugs!
I have bought four cans now, and the three I have used have ALL clogged or otherwise became UNUSABLE with at LEAST 1/3 or the product left in the can. ! don't know if it is the high outside temperature when using it as some have surmised, but this is a MAJOR problem. The product certainly seems to cover well, is easy to apply, but this one MAJOR flaw prevents me from giving it ANYTHING higher that a 3 star rating. Eastwood, what are you going to do??

Rust Encapsulator worked very well on our project and is a great primer for the chassis black paint. Also, the spray pattern and coverage are first rate. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Help orange peel Great on Surface rust and Bare Metal!
Poorly advertised factoid: This Rust Encapsulator is great on surface rust AS WELL AS BARE METAL (as documented on Eastwood’s video, however not in the written info).
I learned the hard way that rust CONVERTER is only good for metal WITH rust and will actually cause corrosion if used on bare clean metal (says it right on the can from local autostore). I’m sure a chemist could tell us exactly why but basically the RUST CONVERTER needs to react with the iron oxide to chemically transform to a primer. Also Converter is water based whereas Encapsulator is solvent based. Hope that saves a few folks the re work I had to do.
I’m not interested in reviews of Encapsulators, one week results or how pretty it looks. Providing long term protection from moisture and oxygen as well as durability from chipping are the most important variables. So far I have read a few long term reviews that were all positive. Definitely, planning write a follow up review after a few years.
Bottom line: so far so good. Really like the product. Good coverage, looks nice as well.
Three “take aways”
1.) Protects clean metal as well areas with surface corrosion
2.) Does not require a top coat (since it seals as well)
3.) UV resistant (unlike Por-15)
Finally, this seems like the “go to” product if you have an area containing both bare metal and rusty metal.
After removing all accessible rust and treating with Rust encapsulator I used Extreme chassis black on top (although not required). Finally, Eastwood Anti-rust on top. Love the anti-rust, this stuff seeps into the metal like a solvent the leaves an oily/waxy finish that is pretty much tack free after a week or so. Pore some water on it and you see it run away like water a car with two coats of wax, a bit pricey though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Eastwood Rust converter
I used the converter the way it describes with 2 coats and 2 coats of Rust Ecapsulator and then top coat of paint the rust can through the top coat of paint in 1 week lost 8 hours on a job and got paid nothing only to tell the customer how sorry I was that the product is junk, the job is free and I waisted $150 on this poor excuss for a product.
I would never use it on anything again.
I would rate it -10 but there is no stars for negative action.

I used Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator aerosol with the long nozzle to coat the inside on my 65 Mustang cowling, and the hard-to-reach areas of my trunk. Love the way the brass nozzle on the 24" extension sprays...does a great job. You can clean-up this nozzle assy with thinner and reuse so buy one of those and the rest with the reg spray nozzle...save a few bucks. Bought a quart of the brush-on to use on the accessable areas of my floor pans. Using Eastwoods brush-on Seam Sealer after the RE...hoping the car lasts another 48 years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by j2sax Great product, if you can get it out of the can
Once it's on the metal it's as great as always. Unfortunately had a lot of trouble getting it out of the can with consistency in 92 degree weather and high humidity.
When I thought I would be stopping for any appreciable amount of time, I turned the can upside down and sprayed clear, but the aerosol delivery was consistently progressively clogging even when using it constantly. Had to clear the nozzle with a needle and pick several times to get my full can's worth and this was all used on the same day.
I will continue to use it, however, I hope this issue will be resolved as it otherwise a great project.

Rated 3 out of 5 by j2sax Great product, but Aerosol less great!
Love the product performance if you can get it out of the can.
Opened the can the first time and started using it in 92 degree, high humidity weather. The can started clogging after just a few minutes of consistent use. It kept clogging and delivering inconsistent coverage as it would clog progressively.
When I knew I was going to be stopping for awhile, turned can upside down and sprayed the nozzle clear. Still had problems clogging when I resumed use.
Will still use in the future, however, I hope they can resolve these issues to make this an even more incredible product!

I have used this product primarily to refinish some steel wheels for my Alfa bought off Craigslist. The inners and lips were rusty, so a little brushing and a few coats, and voila, they look good. Also have used to cover some dings on a new exhaust pipe for my Alfa, pieces of my gas grill (didn't survive the heat, my bad), and a spot on the Alfa fender under an antenna trim piece. Next will be the underside of the F-150...I may need more cans

I just bought a used SUV that had been subjected to some harsh winters with some light rust spots in places on its independent suspension elements. I brushed off the loose rust and sprayed on the flat black encapsulator. It adheres well, dries quickly, and looks good. Drying time is minimal, especially in my low humidity environment. I can recommend the flat silver encapsulant too, which I also used in places. Eastwood's Rubberized Undercoating, which I have used in places, is a great product also. Based on my experience, I prefer the encapsulant treatment to a "rust convertor" that I tried from another company.
