- Battery: Pop the hood and give your battery a once-over. Look for any signs of corrosion and take notice if your car is slow to start. It may be time to bring your car in for a battery check to ensure that you don’t get stuck on the road.
- Fluids: While your hood is open, check your fluid levels and top off as needed. By making sure that you have the required levels of oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid, you can help prevent bigger issues down the line. Don’t forget to inspect hoses for any cracks or breaks—and if you find any, head to your mechanic for replacement.
- Tires: You don’t have to kick your tires, but poke around a bit. Do they give when you push on them? Time to inflate them. You can check the tread by finding the shallowest grooves in a tire and placing a penny in there with Abraham Lincoln’s head pointed down. Can you see his whole head? If so, it’s time for new tires to keep you rolling along safely.
