If it burns a fossil fuel, I am most likely involved. From a .049 cox engine to 2000hp boat, I have owned or built most of them. Cars, boats, planes & trucks are the vessels that use my passion, ENGINES!
Engines attack all our senses, Looks, sounds, smell, touch and even taste! (ever had that blast of gasoline in a siphon hose?) Growing up and my first race car I was 4 years old, a 1/4 midget in 1962. mini Bikes, birt bikes, go carts and many many cars in the early years I wish I had never sold. The list is heart breaking, Olds 442, 67 SS Chevelle, 70SS LS6. I have also drag raced for years winning 6 bracket track championships (footbrake). Raced in the IHRA Modified eliminator C/EA in the mid 80's. Then stopped car racing in the late 80's and went to the outdoors fishing and hunting, and yes I did have fast boats, Bullet Bass boat, 2.5 merc highly modified ran in the mid 90mph range in fishing trim. Got to get to those fish first! Returned to the car hobby later on. My car passion has been Nova's. My current project is a 1968 Nova SS that I had in HS, I sold the car 30 years ago, purchased back in 2011. The car was wrecked in the front end weeks after I sold it. The car was stored in a garage all this time. Same tires, title and even trash that I left in it. I am restoring it, it is a original 350cu Th350 car, triple black. Was just painted at DEI, who else to paint black? I have not finalized my new power plant decision yet. I am on the fence with LS, BBC or just go back with a Small block. Car will be a very easy driving cruiser not a street burner at all. It will have overdrive and A/C. My last project a 1970 Nova, pure street car, Huger orange, I was on the show Passtime with it. Filmed in 2008 at Atlanta Dragway Ran a 10.49 at 126mph. I have worked with racing teams and camshaft manufactures, was a General Motors Powertrain Consultant, SPO, Eastern division. Been in the aftermarket parts division all my life started at a local parts store at age of 15. Rebuilt my first engine at 10 years old. I understand all concepts of the customers needs and wants, it's a cruiser and we just want to shine, the guy who wants the overdrive, ease of EFI on his older engine, to the racer who needs the Parts from a aftermarket block and those HP making heads with a cam to make it all work and to the tuner wanting to compete with the RPM of a chain saw. I can help you with your project. As a fellow "ENGINE " lover we can't stand the tool box to collect dust.
Hope to meet you soon, AL Smith
