Save Gas

Let's face it, gas is expensive. Even when prices drop a little, they're still pricy. The best way to counter high prices at the pump is to make sure you're making the most of every drop. Here are a few tips to help you save gas while maximizing your mileage. Pep Boys is here to help. Stay on top of these basic vehicle maintenance tips and drive your dollar further.
Step 1: Check Your Tire Pressure
Properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage up to 3 percent, saving up to 11 cents per gallon or up to 3mpg by checking the air pressure in your vehicle’s tires before driving. In the driver’s side doorjamb or the glove box you’ll find a guide to correct tire pressure for your vehicle’s tires. Keep them up to spec and you’ll save gas and drive safer. Find yours and fill up today!

Step 2: Change Your Oil
Improve your vehicle’s gas mileage by 1 to 2 percent and extend the life of your engine by using the manufacturer's recommended grade of motor oil. Also, look for motor oil that says "Energy Conserving" on the API performance symbol to be sure it contains friction-reducing additives.

Step 3: Clean Your Fuel System

Today’s fuel injected cars perform better and use less gas when they’re free of the dirt and particles that can accumulate over time. Pep Boys recommends having your vehicle’s fuel injectors and fuel and induction system cleaned and the injector throttle body serviced every year to maintain peak performance and maximize gas mileage.

Step 4: Drive More Efficiently
Gas mileage decreases dramatically when you drive faster than 60 mph. According to the US Department of Energy, every 5 mph over 60 costs you 6 percent in fuel consumption. It’s simple. Slow down. Save gas.
