My name is Burke Maze but my nickname is “Poke”. When I was junior in High School in 1972, I had the great opportunity to modify completely a 1968 Camaro. Thanks to my older brother who at age 19 had his own full service Texaco gas station. And an old family friend who had a Body shop we worked out of at night, we painted the car, with a new hood scoop, wheels & tires, Lakewood traction bars, Hurst line lock, Sun super tach and much more. We essentially did “Pimp my Ride” before MTV ever existed. Right after High School I went to work for the speed shop that I bought all of my parts from. The company is called K & G Speed Associates in Havertown, Pa. It was there that I got to meet and know racers such as “Jungle Jim Lieberman” and “Bill Grumpy Jenkins” I worked for them for 10 years, working along side with some of the best racers and engine builders in the country. In 1987 I decided to go on my own and opened Poke’s Performance in Frazer, Pa. I eventually expanded to have my own full service engine machine shop, and installation center as well as the speed shop. Do to the economy and other situations I sold everything in 2006. I am very thankful and grateful to Pep Boys Speed Shops to give me the opportunity to work again in the field I love. Always remember find a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life.
