Manny, Moe and Jack Celebrate Brake Safety Awareness Week All Month Long with Free Brake System Inspections
Pep Boys Also Offering Free Brake Safety Brochures and Do-It-Yourself Guides
PHILADELPHIA (August 8, 2011) — The Pep Boys — Manny, Moe & Jack (NYSE: “PBY”), announced today that it is participating in the Motorist Assurance Program’s (MAP) Brake Safety Awareness Week, August 20–28, by offering free brake system inspections for the entire month of August at Pep Boys locations across the nation.
Throughout the month, Pep Boys will also have informational brake safety brochures and do-it-yourself guides available to download at www.pepboys.com for consumers without a Pep Boys close by.
Pep Boys recommends drivers regularly inspect their brake systems, including all brake linings, hardware and hydraulics, or have them inspected by trained technicians where available.
The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA) in conjunction with the Pep Boys, recommends assessing the brake system for the following maintenance indicators, each of which could signify possible problems:
- A brake system warning lamp that stays illuminated
- Scraping or grinding noises coming from the brakes
- Brake pedal feel that’s soft or spongy when the pedal is depressed
- A vehicle that pulls to one side when the brakes are applied
- Low brake fluid level in the master cylinder
- A brake fluid test indicating a copper content of 200 ppm or greater
During Brake Safety Awareness Week, or any other day of the year, drivers can stop by any Pep Boys location nationwide to inquire about vehicle safety and recommended maintenance. Pep Boys has experts on hand to answer questions, offer system inspections and free tire pressure checks year-round to assure consumers are driving safely.
“Taking care of your brakes is a critical part of keeping your vehicle safe,” said Jerry Martinelli, Director of Service at Pep Boys. “As we head into the fall season, now is an ideal time to seek a thorough brake inspection.”
